I don’t think a letter would do much but if a partner at your current firm knows people in the market/where you are applying, an email introduction would go a long way to separating you from the other random applicants.

No. That’d be odd / unexpected.
Would be weird to include a letter of recommendation but candidates to our firm have included references (otherwise optional). We’ve actually at times called those references to get more information on the candidate and it’s definitely helped some candidates get an offer.
