How much does established regional firms pay? If it’s a full device firm with a few offices, anywhere between 50 to 200 lawyers, how big paycut am I expecting if I’m switching from Cravath scale?

There is going to be a huge disparity in salary for regional firms so it will really require a lot of research into the firms you are considering. Outside of the firms that pay on the cravath scale or close to it there is a huge disparity even in the Amlaw 100. Large but non prestigious firms like Lewis Brisbois and Gordon Reese have starting salaries under 100k so if “big law” salaries can range from 190-90 you can imagine the spread for large regional firms to be 160-60

My ~60 attorney firm starts at $110k. Billable target is 1925. Associates who exceed the target don’t do so by much. The other prominent firm in my city (~120 here, but about 200 total) starts at $165k but no real opportunity for bonuses at that firm it’s “factored in” to base pay.

Thanks! Does Dallas pay more?

~100 attorney firm starts 110k, 1800 billable, 1900 recommended for 5% salary bonus. Well respected regional firm in Pittsburgh.

What region?

I’m open to most places. Which region would pay the most?

In Denver, 150,000 starting.

Associate 2 - are we talking about first year starting at 150k? Or any associate position?

I assume it’s just too many people want to move there??

Texas regionals pay close to Cravath at the lower levels. Disparity gets pretty huge as it progresses though.

OP - do you think that everyone starts in biglaw? I went from wanting to help you out but your ignorance and lack of perspective about how law is practiced outside of NYC is mind boggling.

Outside NYC if you’re a mid level salaries are $125-$165k or so, with bonus additional. As other have said, the scale does not continue to increase so expect to top out around $225 unless you are a rainmaker.

I moved from Chicago (cravath) to Nashville (we’ll respected regional with 500 attorneys) & went from 200k to 140k. Cost of living helps so it doesn’t feel as drastic

I moved as a rising third year & yes I am from the southeast originally (Louisville) so some of it was motivated by being closer to home. Really happy with my decision so far (a month in).

Attorney 3 - do you know how much does a 7th year make in your firm?

My husband and I have concert tickets to a big outdoor festival that was cancelled for covid and is now happening in late August. His brothers and some college friends are flying in to stay with us. We just found out we're pregnant and I'll be 9 weeks by concert time. We aren't ready to tell anyone but we can't think how we can ask them to cancel without explaining. We are all vaccinated and are in SF so cases are low, but not zero. Any advice?

Parents turn 70 next year. I’m trying to figure out what to expect, how to prepare for retirement, etc. Any suggestions? Feeling overwhelmed, not sure where to start. They live in India while I’m in Canada and no chance of bringing them over right away ( will take 3 years or so, based on visa timelines). They are mobile right now but we had a bad scare where dad was hospitalized overnight and I can see that they need someone for these once a year events ( which will probably get more frequent).
