Aaaaaa I just messaged someone who ghosted me.
Wildest thing I’ve seen today.
It’s Father’s Day, but my dad won’t speak to me.

I don't think this concern holds water. You should determine if he respects women based off if he respects women, not based on his taste in cinema.

I like comedies, horror, and sci fi. Am I a funny, homicidal alien? 👽
Female here, FWIW. 💅🏻

Yeah. It’s crazy

There’s a correlation, particularly depending on what he enjoys about the movie. It’s a fair red flag imo

Movies are fantasies, even the ones based on real life events. To the extent that this fellow favors fantasies where women get rescued by men, I assume in his head he inserts himself as the protagonist and does the rescuing.
As long as he is able to separate fantasy from reality, i.e. see you for you, and the world as it is, you should be just fine.

I think there have been some studies on personality types and movie preferences so you should Google them.
Anecdotally, I've dated women with vastly different tastes than mine. Doesn't mean I've thought any less of them. In fact, we've been able to introduce each other to other kinds of movies we wouldn't have watched on our own.
Also, I'm a man so I have natural preference of watching movies with strong male leads over female leads. But that's all that means. Doesn't translate into me not respecting women or anything..
Probably "hey, what do you like about them?" might give some useful answers. "I like romantic comedies because I want to live like a romantic comedy heroine" and "I like romantic comedies because I like silly escapism" are two very different people.
Liking a movie is not enough to judge. It depends on why they like a movie. Could be for an actor’s performance. Could be for good directing.
Have you talked to him about movies in general? A conversation about what movies you like, and why you like them might be somewhat revealing.
There’s so many reasons to like a movie that it’s really hard to even speculate. And without some deeper insight, I’d be hesitant to judge someone’s character based on their movie choice.
Just going from my own preferences, I adore period pieces and some Sci-Fi because I like to imagine what it would be like to live in such a different time and place, or to think about what we have achieved or can achieve. The period pieces especially usually have good interpersonal conflicts between the characters, that’s just satisfying to watch unfold. And in both genres, I appreciate the attention to the details when it comes to the costumes, sets, and mannerisms of the cast - it helps to bring the different world alive.
I also love to watch Kung Fu movies and action movies with BIG fighting scenes (I liked the 2015 Mad Max or anything by John Woo). I like watching the complex choreography involved, it’s almost like a dance. I also enjoy watching the raw athleticism of the actors in those scenes too.
For me the story tends to almost be a little secondary. It’s a reason for the characters to interact, or the reason for the conflict. Because of that I’m quite willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoying it. There’s also something comfortable too about knowing the story - it lets you focus on the other elements of the piece.
I would say it depends on how seriously he takes those movies? I’ve dated guys who liked problematic movies but never really thought about any of the relationship dynamics or whatever in them that much - just liked the big explosions and simple guy stuff. I also dated guys who deeply analyzed every little detail and could not tell the difference between fantasy and reality and completely typecasted me as whatever movie character they found I had the most superficial similarity with 🙄

D1 and K1 with different answers, but I like both! EY with a nuanced answer. Thanks for your suggestions!
If you must judge someone on their taste of movie genre, at least narrow it to the type of pron they watch.

None whatsoever. I love zombie and horror, what could you possibly extrapolate from that? Why even try to base someone on that?
