How much is a good hourly salary rate for an entry-level position at a major clothing store chain? I was offered $16 an hour, which is one dollar above minimum wage in my state. It's not too bad, but I am worried about my shifts, they're all over the place.

Employers complain ppl don’t want to work when no one applies for their “below-the-cost-of-living-wage”, and their management makes upwards of $75,000!? When are they going to realize & admit to the absolute imbalance? PAY your employees the cost of living in your state, lower the almighty mgt pay & get REAL. Btw, Nordstrom is not worth the pressure the put on you to make your “numbers” at all cost - the favoritism and prejudice that exists there is tangible and tense. If customers only knew…

They should pay both managers and workers more. Housing goes up, cost of living goes up, hourly and salary should go up in my opinion.

It depends on where you live, but $16 an hour doesn't sound too bad. Have you checked Glassdoor to see what other people are earning? I agree there's an imbalance in management/associate salaries, but for an entry-level position it seems fine to me.

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

Been working in digital marketing/ecom for 5 years now. I’ve always been at small startups where I am the head of marketing - aka inflated title & wearer of many hats. I want to get into a specialized job function that has growth potential, salary potential, and a decent wlb (obviously also will depend on company).

Would you suggest performance/ads or product marketing and why?

I’m being let go. It came as a surprise because my time with the company I’ve gotten positive feedback. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me that I was being put on a 30 day performance review plan. The last 2 weeks I’ve gotten positive feedback about improvement but on Thursday my boss decided to cut the review plan short and give me an end date. Since I’ve been there <1 year I’m getting 2 weeks severance. Is there room for severance negotiation? A friend in HR (not ad) told me I should ask.

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? Upon starting this job a couple of weeks ago, I discovered between the time I interviewed and my start date they had hired a new CEO, laid off all of their off-shore teams, changed my position to a new hiring manager, and added an on-call rotation to all engineering teams. None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?
