How much is your gym membership?

Looking to lose the baby weight, surround my WFH lonely self with other motivated folks, and meet new people in this town.

Really trying to justify this epic amazing gym stocked with facilities & amenities instead of jogging / peloton / planet fitness / 24 hour fitness.

No other big expenses other than mortgage & food & car, low key person generally not extravagant. But I want this. It's $250/ month for family (2 adults, 2 kids in onsite daycare).

The fact that you said "but I want this" should eliminate any question. If you want it for yourself, do it.

To answer your question, I pay $225/mo but I get a gym with everything I could possibly need and someone far more knowledgeable than I designing my workouts. It's worth it for me, but might not be to someone else. Ultimately the only justification you need is whether it's worth it to you.

I go to my community gym for free. And I mostly run so it costs nothing.

like

I spend $100 on two gym memberships ($60 & $40) If you are going 4+ times a week I think it is worth it

like

Does your or your partner's employer offer a discount network through your HC provider, payroll/HRIS partner, or EAP? It's worth a look! There may also be wellness credits/discounts available depending on the benefits structure and offerings. If finances are stable and you can afford this, don't let the cost be the reason you neglect what will motivate you and help you feel like your best self.

helpful

My husband and I pay $100 a month for a gym membership. That includes classes, racquetball, pickle ball, basketball, three outdoor pools, two indoor pools, a sauna, a cycling lab, a track, and everything else a gym comes with lol.

If you want it, it’s worth it. Do it. Feel good. To answer your question, I pay $190/month for equinox and $309/month for an assisted stretching service once a week. Money well spent.

Are there fees for cancellation or a minimum contract? Is it just the cost that's a sticking point?

If you're that excited to try this gym and take advantage of its amenities, then I think you should do it. The childcare onsite removes probably one of the biggest hurdles to working out that you may face as a new parent. The childcare break could also be an additional benefit that mentally will help in addition to the workouts.

You will probably also have some social improvements by taking classes and speaking with instructors/classmates. I know most new moms tend to feel like they're isolated and away from adult conversations since most conversations tend to revolve around their newborns.

I wish you luck! You got this! 💪💪

This with small caveat that not all kids do well in ad hoc childcare. Mine did daycare and preschool, but those random drop offs with random caregivers threw them and made it hard to get ROI.

But if you have the funds and don’t have to commit long term, absolutely give it a whirl and see if it works in your life. Fun gyms are fun! If it has a pool for summer, no brainer.

smart

I pay $10 per month, but I don't want or need classes or the perks of bigger gyms. If it's a good value and benefit to you, then go for it. I do like going to a gym over home based options. And I would gladly pay more for the childcare benefit if I needed it, but am able to work out during the day while mine are in school.

That sounds amazing - I pay about $100 for workout classes every month but if you want to try the gym, then try it! You can also try Fit4mom. They have franchises around the country and you can meet fellow moms there in outdoor classes.

My gym is $125 a month. 24/7 hour access and not a lot of people (so plenty of racks)
