Is an MBA really worth it for a career pivot?
I have a PhD in Biochemistry. I am interviewing at a small boutique law firm to be a science advisor for 1-2 years before taking the patent exam. The business is located in a high cost of living area, but my position would be mostly remote and in a low COL area.
I can find comp for patent agents in the area, but what would be normal for this in-between time?

Unless there is a massive change in comp, role, or responsibilities, I don’t see why you would.
Smaller groups usually pay better, or are body-shops, to entice quality employees to them due to the risks you mentioned. In my experience there is still a bench at smaller orgs but if there isn’t work and nothing in the pipeline they may not keep you around. Gonna vary group to group
