Not sure how much I spend a month but I’ve probably put at least $500-$800 into my classroom. Students don’t come with supplies half the time and I’d rather not hear “I don’t have a pencil/paper/pen”. So I just have them in my room. I was able to bring my office supplies from my old office job into my classroom so I didn’t have to buy much for myself. Just decor and supplies (copy paper too). We get $300 at the beginning of the year though but that gets used up easily between copy paper and toner for my printer (that I bought myself bc the school didn’t have anymore working ones).
My school does not provide supplies or money for supplies. As a first year teacher, I'm glad I haven't tracked how much I've had to spend because I would be genuinely horrified.
I don't pay for anything. I didn't realize how rare that was and how lucky I should be; my school has unlimited paper in the copy room and my room comes with a Smartboard which I use as a projector. I'm thinking of buying some chart paper next week for a gallery walk - I might be able to ask my school for some, but they provide so much already that I don't mind buying this.
I spend about $300, and hopefully last me through both semesters
My school believes that 10 reams of paper for 150 kids should last me two months, so I end up buying a lot of my own paper.
We get 10 reams per trimester for 26-32 students (elementary so if you count that out per subject it's a similar number) And no colored paper at all. Luckily I have some generous parents.
I spent about 100 dollars in the beginning of the school year and will probably spend about 300-400 more by the end of the year. I just want to make sure that I make the kids' experience in class the best that it can be- even if I struggle that month.
I don't keep track, but I'm guessing $800-$1000 each year. Most of it goes to paper and toner, but I buy other things on occasion to upgrade my classroom and my instruction.
We get a minimal amount of paper and no printer ink
I buy the bulk of my stuff at the beginning of the year so at this point I only spend about $75/month for my own supplies and extras for students
I bought folders for my students and notebooks. I'm constantly replacing pencils so I would say $30/month. I buy a big back of candy from Costco for $15 it usually last for a month
Have parents donate! Create a wish list…you’ll be amazed at the goodwill this breeds. Just get creative & sit back, watch the show with your new cast of characters each year. You’ll breathe a bit easier, too.
I have been teaching for so long I have all the gadgets and things I need. Sometimes I need to replace things but it's no more than about $25/month
Lucky for me I teach a computer class. That's pretty much all that is needed for my class and the school provides that so I come out of pocket. $0
Depends on the needs but less than $50 of my own.
On needs? Zero. On wants? About 10-25
0% my Dept has a VERY healthy budget for any classroom supplies. I also teach high school so our needs are probably different than in elementary school.
Nope I just work at a private school and we have a very good budget for my department.
My first year was ridiculous. I don't want to think about how much I charged. I got a mini fridge and microwave so I could eat lunch in my room and work at the same time. The classroom I took over was bare so I spent money on posters, bulletin boards, and over decorations to actually make it a happy place. I spent at least a $100 on used books for a classroom library. I bought all the miscellaneous teacher supplies: desktop organizer, files, hole punch, etc.
I'm right there with you. My first year as a teacher I was so excited about decorating my classroom. I think I spent at least $500 on decorations alone. I would also my treats and prizes for students weekly who knows how much that came up too. I've gotten way better since then
Not a single dime. I'm very lucky to be in a district that could anticipate and plan for budget cuts and had a very long view of state budgets. The pay and benefits were sub-par for years, but at least I never had to purchase my own supplies.
What city is this if you don't mind me asking? That is really great that they do that for you all. I wish my district budgeted this way
I've spent nearly my whole paycheck $2,000 for supplies, supplies for students that don't bring theirs, decorations etc. It really blows my mind.
There’s a difference between dedication and spending large amounts of money on students.
In a year I tend to spend about $600-800
I haven’t spent a single dime on anything
Depends on the school year
