How much of a cut does an external recruiter get for a finders fee of an accounting/tax candidate and is there typically a 90 day guarantee? I know someone who used a recruiter and was cut loose by the employer within 90 days.. I assume recruiter loses out now?

Hiya - the cut is more than you’d think. I moved to industry two years ago, and since have seen several invoices come across my desk for recruiters involvement in hiring other people on the finance team. They typically run $20-$30k for S - M. I’ve seen one be as high as $50k for a VP of accounting. Not sure what the terms of the agreement are though, but it sounds like at least a couple of months pay.

There was one individual that got fired within a year, and I know the recruiting firm had to pay back the finders fee. If any organization is smart, they’d make the guarantee longer than 90 days. Maybe the norm is 6 months but not sure.

You’re not responsible for vetting candidates and your value is not based on the quality of candidates.

There’s % on milestone days, like upon signing, start, 30/60/75/90 days, 6 months/year.

I’m looking to make a career change and move on from traditional support engineering to a sales engineering role.

I’ve applied to a position at a product vendor we’ve used for a long time. I have a great relationship with our the customer success team at the company. Would it be appropriate to ask them for a referral to the hiring manager?

How would I go about doing that without it being awkward considering we have regular meetings with them with my current team?

Trying to apply for another position at the same company but my boss told me explicitly that if they find out people on our team are looking for other jobs, they will stop giving that person raises, promotions, bonuses, & access to opportunities. I have spoken with the hiring manager for the new position and he just asked me if I have notified my current manager. Not sure how to navigate this tricky situation. Was hoping to interview before having to tell my manager that I am applying. Ideas?

I heard back yesterday immediately after my debrief that I got the job!

“Job hopper” and “quiet quitting” are all schemes made up by boomers to make you think everything is the employees fault. When in reality people are just getting out of bad situations. Older companies do whatever they can to pay you the least amount and get the max work out of you. Except our generation will just leave amid we’re being mistreated, not complain for 35 years making 50k and 0 advancement.

1st of all: I’m super inspired by this bowl. I’m now mid-30s and recently went 50+ days without drinking and felt good/productive. (Longest streak since before turning 21) But how do you stick with it? I’m conflicted bc I haven’t hit a “rock bottom” and part of me loves a glass of wine to unwind and mark the end of the workday, but I also have a hard time stopping once I start (no such thing as 1 glass). Feel boarder-line between these 2 worlds and unsure where to go. Anyone feel similar?
