Can you put a price on how much money you’ll save by not commuting, the time you’ll save by not commuting, not paying for overpriced city lunches, not paying for anything at all (on WFH days)? I’d go up to 50k is the job closer to home means more happiness while not losing your house.

Paycut from what? An ACD salary? If it’s a big account than you shouldn’t have to take a pay cut. Especially if you’re an ACD looking to take a CD role.
Context: i've been a CD for 4 years and was laid off last year. One potential job is a decent paying but likely high stress VP ACD job in NY, the other is a CD job out here in CT that is with a very small shop on a big name account and I don't know the salary yet. Im curious if people would tolerate a potentially big pay cut for the better lifestyle gig out in CT because I assume it will be a good deal lower... seems like most people say hell yes!
Same boat. Two kids. Two incomes. Took a 10k cut and didn’t think it would be a big deal. But it really stretched our budget. We went from being able to pay down debt, save and cover our bills to barely covering bills and just making min payments on debt. Once you add that second kid, it’s like every penny counts.
To be more clear it was a 10k cut PLUS the addition of the second kid. So our cost of living went up a lot more than we expected. But yeah. When you add up formula, diapers, clothes, and supplies, not having that extra 7K made a big difference.
Take the better job whatever it pays. It’s an investment in your future growth and your family.
After taxes even $20,000 is not that much.
The State of New York would know!

This is a no brainer. Small agency close to home.

Commutes are hell. Take the closer CD job. Plus, “VP ACD” is a bit of an odd title.
Bro take it. Esp since you have little ones.

This sounds fantastic, I’d include the 4 hours a day commuting here in a major way
For sure- I would decide what your salary base or range is and find a job that hits that for sure, but the highest paying job isn’t necessarily the best job for you.

Have both, salary and location. If they value talent, then be paid what you’re worth. Or ask for 5k, more vacation days etc.
Thanks everyone!!
What’s VP ACD?
No amount of money ever bought a second of time.
