How much of Clinton's failure do you think is due to her being a woman?

I'm a woman and I think it had plenty to do with it. It's a subconscious bias that's underlying everything, from the moment she announced she was running and it was characterized as a "crazy" decision. People are not going to admit it or may not even realize it (hence, subconscious), but it can be detected in how much she was "hated" even before the scandals during the campaign, the amount of scrutiny she got for things that her male predecessors did and no one batted an eyelash, the fact that she was exonerated for a lot of things but the public still has their pitchforks out. There are some people who can't imagine a female president, and are willing to forgive Trump for a lot of the character flaws that they're hanging over Clinton (like the whole lying thing - Trump lies way more than Clinton but somehow that doesn't seem to bother these people).

K1- Luckily, Seth Meyers did the work for us by summarizing:

Trump: called Mexicans rapists, claimed the president was born in Kenya, proposed banning an entire religion from entering the US, mocked a disabled reporter, said John McCain wasn’t a war hero because he was captured, attacked the parents of a fallen soldier, bragged about committing sexual assault, was accused by 12 women of committing sexual assault, said some of those women weren’t attractive for him to sexually assault, said more countries should get nukes, said that he would force the military to commit war crimes, said a judge was biased because his parents were Mexicans, said women should be punished for having abortions, incited violence at his rallies, called global warming a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, called for his opponent to be jailed, declared bankruptcy six times, bragged about not paying income taxes, stiffed his contractors and employees, lost a billion dollars in one year, scammed customers at his fake university, bought a six-foot-tall painting of himself with money from his fake foundation, has a trial for fraud coming up in November, insulted an opponent’s looks, insulted an opponent’s wife’s looks, and bragged about grabbing women by the pussy.

0, it's all about being untrustworthy

Quite some extent. I have been working on a project in Jacksonville for a couple of months now. I can personally attest that it's not all that easy being a female here

None of it

I'm with A1 on this.

None.

Yes, because she's a woman. If it was Donald Trump's face on exactly Hillary Clinton's words and actions, running vs the real Donald Trump, the majority of America would have voted the Hillary version.

like

@K1 - Maybe if you got your news from a source other than Fox News and breitbart, you'd know that Clinton was actually the most qualified candidate we've ever had.

like

Zero, zip, zilch. It was the trust factor, the scandals, and the desire for change (choosing a perceived outsider over the status quo).

I voted for HRC, and would have voted for a moderate Republican who was actually presidential, in a heartbeat. Gender would not have been a factor.

like

Her untrustworthiness is exactly due to her being a woman whether you realize it or not and that is the problem

like

Just stop, OP - have you followed how Trump was portrayed? He got it so much worse than Hillary. I'm not a Trump supporter by the way.

like

I think it has more to do with a lot of other things that you'd be familiar with if you stepped outside your echo chamber.

like

I am a woman and I don't think it had anything to do with her being a woman. Qualified doesn't always translate to competent as you and I can both attest to, given some of the staff we would have worked with. That said, it's not like Trump was exactly a rockstar. This election is a mystery and she completely missed a very critical point that has cost her heavily. I honestly don't know what it is except people seem to be saying they are frustrated and anti-incumbency even if it meant voting for someone like DJT

like

OP, it doesn't matter if we are men. You want this to be a gender issue. Nothing anybody says will change your mind. You want the drama and you want to blame this result on men not wanting a female president. Sorry your candidate lost, but don't turn keep trying to turn this into something it isn't.

The mansplaining is strong with many of you. Unconscious bias is a real thing. The words that have been used to describe Hillary have been charged with sexism ever since she decided to step out of the FLOTUS mold and run for office herself.

like

I think if a woman acted like Trump, she would not have made it to President. If a man had acted like Clinton, who knows. My opinion.

like

OP I am not trolling at all. The ones who don't see the sexism, or who voted for Trump to "shake things up" or because he'll "fix the economy and national debt" are truly blind. They will also get offended by this post for the same reason. This rage and blindness is what brought those voters to the polls tonight. I hope this app is still up in 4 years because I'd like to check back on this group to hear the excuses for why Trump didn't deliver.

like

I'm a woman and think it had minimal effect on her loss. I know plenty of people who voted for her just because she was a woman. If you look at the key states Trump won, it was because of his policies on trade, jobs, and supporting the middle class. HC didn't connect with that group in the same way.

I just hear everyone obsessed with rankings but tbh in 10 years, outside say Harvard, they will have changed. My Alma mater undergrad was a top 20 school that has fallen for example. I chose it because it was the best in my local area but who cares given i don't live in that geographic local anymore.

Other schools that I didn't even consider have risen up.
