Can you please help in terms of salary, I can aim for next switch or should continue with the same company as I feel I am underpaid when I see my counterparts. I left consulting at $155k base last March and went to industry. I’m now at $191k and work 40 hour weeks MAX. Retrospectively I would have probably still left for a small pay cut bc the lifestyle and path to promotion are so much better at least in my experience. YMMV.
I think the flaw here is that you think you need to take a pay cut. The goal is to get a position at with comps that's at parity or better at a with a better title.
You’re in consulting for a reason. Don’t take a pay cut
20%
175k base on 50 hour weeks is the dream.
Right now, I’m at 100k on 65 hour weeks. So gonna be a few years before I can hit that goal
None. Would be bored.
Never take a paycut this early.
Woo congrats!! All depends on what your long and short term plans are, and whether you’re ready for that change in lifestyle IMO. It sounds like you’re considering it so you’re part way there, but if you do go, make a plan and have no regrets!
I would give up 25%. I’m making 80k right now but hoping with my consulting experience to get a more senior job in industry with similar salary but I’m also willing to sacrifice that for a healthier work-life balance.
D2, very good, but I’d say opportunities like that are not the norm. In my case, my industry of interest just doesn’t pay as high as ones like pharma and tech. However it has travel related benefits.
As an M1 with 5 years exp (half industry half consulting), I just went from 140 base to 150 base in industry. Increase in title and responsibility. Loving my 40 hour weeks, but some weeks will require travel which, if you count travel time, will put me over 40. Totally worth taking a small increase despite higher responsibility.
I would just look out for opportunities and negotiate. I left for the manufacturing industry.
I'm in Tech and left in 2007 after 7 years for tech industry to get global experience that I couldn't get due to being aligned with Government. Left as mgr. and asked to come 6 years later as st. mgr. Negotiated 30 pay increase from my industry salary and in top quadrant of Sr. Mgr. Range.
I would take no pay cut that’s absurd
0%. I don't want to go into an office on Fridays.
