Curious if anyone has tips on negotiating with a venue?
We toured a new venue (just starting booking in August) and really love it. They said in their initial email that they were running a booking special discount for October 2022 but then later clarified that it was a mistake. We’re now a little weary of working with them and don’t feel comfortable paying the same price for a new venue with no reviews as some established ones we’ve seen. Planning to try to negotiate on price before deciding
I had 35 interviews in western canada. All rejected me and I was losing hope. But unv8serse answered and now I'm working for forbes 100 innovative company in Toronto. All remote and better pay. I felt my PM skills are old and not recognized. But keep learning and keep building.

I did not go to law school because I was passionate about the law. I just wanted a better paycheck and didn’t know what else to do. I’m three years out and I really don’t care about the work I do, just that it makes me money. I see people in bowls talk about their dream jobs, and I can’t help but wonder, what’s it like to have a dream for your career?

I’m a new associate. Having trouble gauging when I’m “at capacity” because sometimes in the moment I’m free and have a couple hours free *that day* but then everything kicks up later all at once and it makes it impossible to deliver a good work product at a time everyone needs it. Tips on setting boundaries or managing time or expectations?

Anyone use litigation financing to cover client costs? Or how is everyone covering client costs? Our caseload is increasing and now considering lines of credit from these litigation finance companies they say they have better rates compared to banks but I’d like to get some feedback from fellow fishes
Young solo here w/ a question about fees: 1. A local solo criminal defense attorney has offered to pay me to go and make appearances before the Court on some of her cases to make announcements. (For example, “ready when reached”). I’m open to doing this and this attorney is asking what my fee would be? Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on what a reasonable fee would be to do something like this? Hourly? Flat Fee? 2. I want to ensure this is ethical. I don’t see an issue with this. Thoughts?

Plaintiff side question - comp is base plus % of fees. Firm has non equity split % with associate working on case. This normal for a non equity partner? Normal associate comp is full % when working with an equity partner.
I was offered a partnership at a small firm I used to work at before my current also small firm. We had come to terms and I expected to inform my current firm. To my surprise, my current firm made me a significant offer to stay. Not a partnership, but making more money and better benefits. I’m torn because the other firm is under the impression I’m coming in as a partner. But I can’t turn away from the significant offer I have from my current firm, where I enjoy working. Any advice/thoughts?
I need some words of wisdom from this esteemed bowl. I have been an associate for almost 2 years in civil litigation with my bread and butter being family and marital law. I have the drive and desire to operate a solo practice with an emphasis on family law as that is my most comfortable area. I've been loved by all my clients and believe I have the charisma to attract new ones. It's not a matter of if I'll go solo but when. Any advice and/or potential pitfalls of going solo so soon?

I have a college student wanting to intern at my new solo firm this summer. I totally can’t afford to pay her, but I also don’t plan on making her “work” but instead will teach her and add value through her internship experience. Is this permissible? Do I need to be cautious for any reason?

Does anyone have an email template they like when making "cold call" introductions to other professionals/potential referral sources? I'm a transactional attorney who needs to build a referral network with CPAs, financial planners, etc., and invite them to come to me with questions or send their referrals on over! Bonus points if you have more than one or one which is more easily customizable.
