As little as possible - I always had roommates and my first bedroom was so small my bed touched 3 of the walls, but I saved a lot of money and paid for b-school and my condo down payment. You’re young, you don’t need a lot of space or a fancy apartment.

I spent 30% on rent before tax but then I would argue because I need certain level of comfort, which is one of my Maslow hierarchy of needs. Depending on what you need. If you can spend less, you can save more but I wouldn’t do at the expense of personal sanity. Be aware of the tradeoffs, pros and cons, those are what really matter

I always follow the 30% of salary rule

My advice, spend a year trying to minimize your rent then reassess the following year. Otherwise I’d say aim to keep your rent + utilities around the 30% mark cited above

like

I make that and spent $715 after utilities

$800 is the max limit

Hey OP, I'm actually looking for a roommate right now. I can get us a pretty nice condo close to work for ~<$1000. Lmk if you're interested

I think any percent rule is stupid. You spend what you can afford based on your other expenses. Check out the website you need a budget.

smart

30% rule is typically before tax. Personally, I think it’s crazy to spend that much on rent right out of undergrad though. Get a roommate and save

I had to google Buena Park. Lol. Lake view/uptown/boys town. How many square feet

If you’re making 75k in Chicago. Keep rent under 1100 and other utiles ect below 150$ it’s just a waste of cash anyway so see how cheap you can make it. I found early on my 900$ rent was about good for me.

Hi European 🐠 My company is currently looking for IT architects and tech consultants (any level). We’re a boutique with a amazing team culture and really very interesting projects, great learning opportunities (aka we don’t get hired to take over tasks no one wants to do, we get hired to make a difference) + above average comp. Relocation is not necessary, as long as you’re in CET time zone and live close to an airport. DM me for more information! Cheers

(This is kind of an ad, but I started the bowl, so here ya go...) Alright, friends, I'm a huge fan of the Southwest Companion Pass. I've had it for 3 years, and have gotten LOTS of free flights out of it! This year, Southwest/Chase have made it so much easier to earn the Companion Pass by raising the credit card sign-on bonuses. I would be posting this even if I didn't get a bonus from it, because it's been so great and such a money saver. (Continued in comments)

That being said - I’m trying to balance knowing it may be lower with not accepting a low-ball offer due to lack of information.
