I give friends three options: option 1 is free! They get one design and no revisions. Option 2 is 2 options and revisions on one option, this is $140. Option 3 I treat them like a professional client, four options, lots of revisions and mockups, business card design and mini brand guidelines. This one is $1400. It’s worked really well for me.
Thank you, I am doing it for a friend. I usually don’t charge friends. $250 sounds fair for them. It is tricky when you work with friends and family. I do more work for them than average designer, but I don’t want to charge them more than average designer would do.
You could go for a flat rate but your post leaves many questions unanswered.
How many options are you designing? Do they know what they want (e.g. typeface, icon, illustrative, or a combination of any two)? I would certainly charge more for an illustrative logo than I would one that’s just an altered font.
What is the size of this company? Is it new? What is its marketing budget?
Similar questions fall under the business card category. Are you just designing or are they asking you for printer and paper recommendations?
Because I have more questions than answers Id probably say you can charge an hourly rate between $50 - $150. AND, I can’t stress enough, before you even save an Untitled.ai make sure everything is written out in terms of revisions and what files the client will receive.
I’ve done my share of logos for friends and I would charge them around $200 for a logo and $50 for business cards and they’ve been good with that. Yet I wouldn’t charge a business what I would a friend. Know that if this company is successful, that may be your logo they use for many years to come so don’t sell yourself short.
Right. I wouldn’t be surprised if their bill was $1,500+ if going to a regular designer. I know my agency charges about $175/hr and we provide 4 options with two sets of revisions.
My two most recent friends wanted branding for an insurance company and the other was an IT tech. It’s hard to charge them such high rates when you know it’s a solo-business or has about 5 employees max. If a friend or family member had an idea for the next Facebook or Uber, then we may have to do a little negotiating.
Best of luck with the project.
