How much time off did you take between jobs? Trying to push new firm for two weeks, but not sure if that’s too much

Please take the two weeks, don’t be like me😫

like

Took 5. Wish I took more. No questions asked.

like

I took 3 weeks. Take the time. They’ll get over it.

I got a job in November, stayed for bonuses at the end of January, left my old job the first week of February and started the new role the last week of March...so nearly 2 months and I regret nothing. If you can push it, take the time, you’ll regret not doing so once you’re knee deep in work again.

like

Agreed with others above. Two weeks MINIMUM. This is one of few times in Big Law that you have no cases, clients, or demands. You won’t regret taking time to recover.

(But you might regret going back.)

like

I took two and still wish I’d insisted on more.

I too a month off, but really 6 weeks. I gave two weeks when I had zero on my plate, so I didn’t have to do a damn thing and frankly I wouldn’t have regardless. There is no cause for loyalty in big law. Live your life for you and you only

What did you all do about health insurance between jobs? No idea how this stuff works

It does—voluntary or involuntary job loss (at least, that’s my understanding).

I took two weeks and I think that's the minimum you should take. Definitely take more if you can swing it.

A month

Three weeks. And that still wasn’t enough.

I’m about to take 6 - why do you even need to tell them? Can’t you just give them a start date and not say when you are quitting?

I took a month both times, but I should have taken more because I was moving.

Take minimum a month. Means very little to them practically, and a lot to you mentally. You don’t owe them a sooner start date.

I’m in my two now and it’s great. I couldn’t afford to do more than two but I would’ve done 3-4 if I could’ve

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.

Job offer extended but now some red flags… I was extended an offer today with a pay raise and great benefits. It’s in a field that interests me more but, now some red flags have come up. They voided my offer after asking for time off way in advance in December of this year & the pay that was discussed on the phone is different from my offer letter. I asked the recruiter to clarify and she said I must’ve not heard her correctly on the phone. I’m not having second thoughts… I was excited.

I expect offers from both: AWS around $400k TC ($250k base + $150k stock) and the startup should be around $300k TC ($250k base + 20% bonus). If comp wasn't the ONLY consideration, what would you do? The AWS role will be an IC role and more hands-on/technical. The startup will be a CPO role reporting to the CEO with a team of about 50 devs+PMs.
