How much to include in your resume?? So I’m 44 y/o and have been actively working with no “gaps” since I was 18. My resume is packed but I feel it may be too much and it feels dated. I want to freshen it up as I’m considering a change. Should I go back 10yrs and leave it at that? Should I simplify the resume? It’s a fine line between easier to read and watered down. Thanks your input!!
Cut out any experience older than 15 years. Take your year of graduation from anywhere off the resume. Remove details of jobs that do not have duties in line with the work you are current pursuing, just keep the dates/institution/title.
I agree with this largely but would also recommend working with a professional resume writer! It really helped me put myself in a much better light and I came out with a far more powerful resume than before
Definitely trim it down to the most recent - whatever you can include that will keep it to one page. The only time I include anything older is if it's something extremely relevant to the job I'm applying for. Other than that, mine only covers my last 3 positions.
You don't need any of that stuff from when you were young. I think it'd be most crucial for you to list relevant experience and highlight that. Writing a cover letter always helps too to explain the person behind the resume.
I usually only include my last 3 jobs. That highlights the most current work I have done. That would limit it a little bit more than listing all your jobs you have had in the past.
Only include your work experiences that are aligned with what you are applying for. As a good rule of thumb, maybe include the last 3-5 jobs you've had within the same field. Anything that dates back to 15 years is a no-go in my book. If you're up for it, make a good cover letter. Good luck with job hunting!
Just include whichever credentials make you the perfect candidate for the job. You can leave out certain things that aren't really connected with the role if you're worried about your resume looking too packed.
