How much travelling do you think consulting will be post covid19? More remote or back to normal

More remote. I’m thinking an every other week cadence will become pretty standard.

like

Or 4 weeks off 0 weeks on that would be pretty prime too.

likefunny

Whatever cadence it ends up becoming, I'm good with 2021 being another wfh year.

Doubt it’ll go back to normal. Clients are realizing the work that could be done while working remotely and would probably opt-in to have the team fly in on special occasions. Firms would probably take the money clients save on reducing travel and pitch it to sell more work.

like

With that being said, I won’t mind coming into the office if my team lives in the same city. I started my career last March and have been pretty much virtual ever since and it can suck from a development perspective.

As a junior level folk who have never travelled for business/work before, I want to do that 24/7, 365 days a year.

like

Be careful what you ask for. There’s a SM or MD/Partner out there that has a greater distaste for life than you. 2020 was the first year in a long time that I didn’t rack up over 100 flights.

like

Mostly remote

like

It won’t go back to normal. Clients are selling off their real estate. Many have already said they are adopting WFH indefinitely. The losers in all of this are going to be commercial property owners and low-skilled resources that need direct micro-management (e.g. that person calling you about your cars extended warranty).

like

Can guarantee it will go back to normal, probably sooner rather than later

funny

M4 - 50% of the US population will have at least their first dose of vaccine by June 28 at the current pace. I'm not saying we'll go back to exactly what we had before, but at a minimum we'll be traveling every other week and our clients will be in the office 2-3 days per week. Permanent 100% WFH is a pipe dream.

I think it ultimately depends on the type of work. But for the most part I think if a firm thinks have someone on sight will help their chances to win work they’re going to jump on it.

I am scared of returning to my empty classroom that sits in a covid hotspot. Its all I want to focus on but I can't...so many great things happened during the spring and summer and they never got celebrated. There's no time like the present! Let's drop the negative, mind numbing complaints (speaking to myself) and grow & glow through it

My principal approached me in the car pick up line on Friday to inform me that I’ve taken to many days off & school has just started. I took 1day off when my daughter tested positive for Covid, I had an doctor’s appt that had been scheduled 6 months ago to see the hematologist. Being that I’m anemic, current labs showed I need to have 2 iron infusions. I put in for 2 more days off to have that done. He told me in the future to wait until a work day! We done have any until December!!

Unrelated to law, but need some advice on how to help a friend. One of my best friend’s dad is in the hospital in really bad shape. She’s home with her mom and siblings. I want to send food or do something for them, especially since they just found out they may have been exposed to covid when visiting their dad at the hospital (not by their dad), and they have to quarantine for 2 weeks. If I were closer I’d make food and drop it off, but they’re 200 miles away. Any ideas?

My favorite part about WFH is that I experience significantly less micro aggressions and/or discrimination than when I used to have to go to the office. The downside is that there will probably be less work for employment lawyers. I don’t mind making that sacrifice. It’s harder to have a hostile work environment when you don’t have to be in a work environment 5 days a week (sometimes 6). For context, I’m a POC.

Guidehouse folks! What perks do you have, i.e. coffee and meals expensed, Uber/Lyfts expensed, flexible/remote work?

I live alone and have loved the time not traveling but WFH has really started getting to me the past few weeks. On top of that, I got a series of bad news this week that really took a toll on my mental health (one has affected my ability to visit family), and I’ve never felt this alone in my life. I miss having an office to go to and see others in. Even started skipping workouts & cooking, both of which I love. Could use hugs and inspiration to get past this hump
