I’m being offered a job in plaintiff side employment law litigation from direct services non profit. (Dream) however I’m worried about training & learning curve especially for a first gen, only POC.im leaning to take it but would like resources to help me learn (beyond using guides /secondary sources) I
Do not, I repeat, do not ask to “interview” with a diverse attorney. Email them to set up a time to talk and then call them. Let them know you are calling to get the real, you won’t say that you talked to them, and they can deny ever having talked to you. Hopefully they will give you the low down real talk. Whenever this happens with me, I tell them how it is because I know if they come, hate it, and figure it out that they will resent me. Trust me, just call them.
Hmmmm I’d ask to interview with an associate (specifically a diverse associate if they have any) and ask them. I’ve seen POC beware signs for certain places. In one instance that meant “POC beware... you’ll be the only POC” which turned out fine. No issues bc I was POC, just regular associate issues. Another place was beware POC and it was “beware POC... people here don’t like or try to incorporate POC.” I can live with the former, the latter not so much.
That in it of itself would be an issue for me. The only POC signals a cultural problem in my book.
I trust the reviews, particularly if there are multiple ones raising the same issues.
All of the ones on my company’s website are 100% accurate. I give it weight but also think about what team I’m on. Usually legal teams are much smaller and insulated from the regular office drama (we don’t have time 😂).
Mine says great things but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. It just depends on the employee’s experience and who is willing to post about it, and both of these things are subjective.
Trust the reviews 40% and your gut 60%.
