How much would you budget for 1 bd in midtown/downtown? Obviously would vary but just trying to get a baseline as Chicago is so much cheaper and I’m trying to adjust my cost of living after moving from there

I don’t think either of my apartments were associated with trump. But I’m just saying 5500 is way above what I’d expect to pay for a 1 bed in midtown, even in the current market. (I lived in midtown east and now UES)

I’m in a luxury 1br in Hell’s Kitchen (residential neighborhood close to midtown) - $3.1k. I suggest looking at StreetEasy for quality/price examples though. Most people come to NYC expecting a certain quantity of bedrooms and end up lowering expectations for quantity and go for quality of the apt. You may find cheaper neighborhoods of Manhattan like UES (I suggest staying below 96th). For ref, I had a studio in UES for $1.8k for a few years. I think 1brs are very high in demand so you could find a deal on a studio and end up loving it.

@PwC 1, wait till you find out that NYC charges a 3 to 4% residency tax for living in Manhattan

I’m 3900 in midtown for a studio

~$3.4k ($3.8k gross) for a 1br in a luxury building in Hell’s Kitchen. To the previous point, we wanted a new building with a good gym, swimming pool, bbq and walking distance from my office, so compromised on space big time (it’s very small for a 1br)

Depends where exactly but $3000 through $7000 depending on what you’re looking for.

I’m sorry but wtf?? I disagree with these. I’ve been on StreetEasy a lot lately cause I’m also moving back to the city soon. East vill, midtown east, & UES all have 1brs that are decent for under $2.5k. It really depends on what your budget is. The lowest you’ll find is like $1.8ish

I mean, you’re not finding luxury doorman apartments in this budget but it depends on your prioritizes. I never used to mind my 4th floor walk up.

Birthday plan (place to go and place to eat) suggestions for my husband? Been together a long time. We recently went to Cote for a nice dinner but that is something along the lines of what we like to do.

He’s an athlete (in case this helps with activity suggestions), so likes being active, but also like cerebral activities like puzzles, etc.

We are new to the city and I am at a loss with all the options. We are young, in our v early 30’s. Open to Soho, Brooklyn, FiDi, Midtown.
