Best way to redeem the points on Amex Card?
I created a food blog on IG where I share meals that I have prepared and plated. I have always loved to cook, but never had the time with travel. Cooking has been one of the things keeping me sane in quarantine. I plan on posting recipes as well. Give the page a follow pls! Link included.

I would value them by the dollar amount I get from them
Ain’t that the unfortunate (for our clients) truth! But once you get a taste of the good stuff sometimes it’s hard to go back —I know water can be free but it’s easier to stay hydrated with seltzer 😅
i would say anywhere from 10-30k/year, post-tax, depending how much travel i’m doing and points i earn and redemptions i make or value i get from my status. maybe not quite as high as 30k but definitely over 20k some years.
Are you looking for a dollar amount? I live alone so the amount I save from weekly travel - whether food, fitness, electricity, so on - is very high. I always prioritize leisure travel and the points/miles bring that annual expenditure way down too. Everything saved gets invested and not spent. It’s not the only reason why I love the travel, but it genuinely makes a huge difference and I can hit aggressive savings targets. However, my budget (spending estimates) is based on 0 work travel
Hotel shampoo. Great if you don’t care what you use.
3k value of pints and 5k for lunch or dinner. This is for a year
Some credit cards will show your YTD points accumulation. Sapphire Reserve does, I’m at ~430k points earned YTD, and using the base conversion of 1.5 cents per point $6.45k in travel.
That’s chase points alone.
Can help put a tangible $ figure to some of the points.
When I was traveling 40+ weeks a year, and playing the points game, I estimated it to be worth about 10k. It essentially paid for a family vacation each year. 🤷♂️
For me, just the savings on weekly train / subway commutes plus food totals 10k per year (after tax). This doesn’t take into account the extra dollar value of points/membership rewards being accumulated (which could be valued probably around 10k+).
I put mine at $10k a year, for sure is more some years though.
I rack up about 2 million Marriott points a year, which have a cash resale value of $9k, or more than that in terms of redemption value. Probably about 100k airline miles per year, and I’m not sure their cash resale value, but I can easily redeem them for a $2k flight. Plus the value of meals while traveling at around $65 per day, 50 weeks a year Monday-Thursday, so about $13k. All in, the perks are definitely upwards of $25k per year!
Call it 48 weeks if that makes you happier. The estimate is still directionally correct.
