How do you for sure if big 4 is not for you?
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

PwC has a people report. I think it comes out every year around September. It lists a lot of things including tier ratings for that year. Just look at everyone who was rated a tier 5. It also shows turnover (voluntary and involuntary) for each level, which will be interesting to see this year.
I believe it's the global annual review. When I worked at pwc they included turnover numbers, but maybe that was just the internal version? I see its not included in the 2020 report
Usually smart people are less likely to put up with the big four culture since it is brainless work and toxic, can only speak for audit.
Maybe they left on their own? Not everyone wants to do those hours.
Maybe they didn’t like it? Why do you assume layoff?
Assuming the person didn't leave on their own accord, it is quite uncommon. They'd have to have had huge performance issues. Big Four don't want to lay off college new hires a year in because it burns bridges from a recruiting perspective

Well I don’t know this situation or what’s typical but a ton of Deloitte people were laid off in June and it seemed like a large amount of them had a year or less experience. Also, firing one individual does not equal layoff. And, a performance firing is usually preceded by a PIP.
I can speak to numbers of total departures but not within the lens of firings. At one of the Big 4 last year, there was approximately 2.3K departures.
Audit Associate 1 & 2 Just surprised because their previous job is definitely not as lucrative in pay as the Big 4 gig they were in.
I’m not in big 4 for the pay, I’m here for the progression.
But big partners got rocks for brains and didn’t realize when you take away arguably the only things a firm is good for (social aspect and promotions), nobody wants to work there
They have laid off for utilization reasons too which sometimes is due to performance. They would have to be seriously underperforming compared to their peers
I was laid off at the 1 year mark from Deloitte a few years ago. AMA.

I agree with D1. In June 2020 we saw a lot or people go. Right around the time when first wave of COVID was at it pick in USA.
I was laid off at Deloitte after a year along with a handful of others in 2016
Was there any significant economic event going on around that time. It looks like that D at the very initial signs of economic slow down take out its chopping block.
It depends, is it a pandemic year??? Is the firm having $$ struggles?
My friend got laid off after 1.5 years, super smart, MAcc, but still got laid off m (I’m sure there were more reasons involved I just never asked)
