I have literally had new biz folks ask me (Black woman) for my bio and headshot for pitch decks more than once on business they NEVER had any intentions of putting me on. for the sake of showing the clients diversity. This was pre-2020 so I doubt it would happen in the current climate but I also know I’d say no unless I see my name on a staffing plan after being burned a few times.
Yeah I think you can just ask for staffing plan, and get confirmation in writing of your potential allocations if the pitch is won. The rest should be understood. One would hope 😬
What’s an RFP?
Clients often want to see the team who will be working with their account. Lately, as more clients lean into diversity, equity, and inclusion, they’ve been asking to see that reflected in the teams. That leads agencies scrambling to find real live actual diverse people to put on the project. Often, they don’t have any, or if they do, they would never let them near a high profile piece of new business, but yet are somehow perfectly OK with putting them in the RFP for it. My agency is so scandalous they once included a freelancer in an RFP who was literally only going to be with the agency for a matter of weeks and would have been gone long before the project even kicked off. 😑
At least they ask you first. I just happened upon it more often than not complete with creative interpretations of my title. Wonder what lies they offered the clients when they were given a totally white team.
