I have never stayed in a role longer than about two years. I moved within one company to three different departments so I was at the company almost five years. I started a new place in February and plan to apply for the promotional position this week.
I’m not loyal to any company or department. I get what I need for my long term goals and move on. I have only had one person mention my movement and I pointed out that what they were referencing was internal promotions and movement within the same company. 🤷🏾♀️
2 shorter job spans aren't a huge red flag for me as an interviewer... if I see that someone hasn't stuck in a job for more than 2 years EVER, that might be.
Job hopping is pretty commonplace, so I think it would be hard to find someone who has no short job spans on their resume.
No - the times, culture and environment have changed.
As long as you are able to reasonably explain your changes, Hiring Managers are willing to listen.
Gone are the days/times of Cradle to Grave Jobs. In fact, if you don’t move around after 2-3 years, sometimes (again, sometimes), Hiring Managers see as you want to be within your Comfort Zone. So nothing to loose in looking around and seek better opportunities.
When they let you go, did they think about your tenure? No. So, just like Companies lookout for their Profits, you lookout for yourself.
Good luck and I am sure you will make the right decision!
No right or wrong answer, really. I think 1 year minimum is the rule, but I have not always followed that myself. It does pay, literally, to hop around every few years.
Nope. You had valid reasons and you can justify them during the interviews. Just be honest with the interviewers. Don't worry too much about it.
