40. Freelancer. Saved up about 2 million and have a house paid off worth a mill and a half. Was always taught to spend less than you can and save more than you need. It’s paid off. Thanks for the advice grandpa, Willy.
Do you have kids?
31, 2k savings, >10k in 401k
Felt it was important to show that not everyone has their life together and so many family Dynamics play into this. Have over 100k in student loans and just moved cities so it emptied my savings...yet I'm still living and enjoying life. It's okay to not have everything figured out yet.
THIS
40. $100k. Started late. But have a house at least.
37
70k in Roth 401k (started late)
about 5k in stocks
10k in cash
Just became debt free so ready to really start saving.
38. 125k in 401. 75k in index fund. 50k cash.
41, $520k in 401k, $130k in Roth IRA, $2.1m in brokerage. No inheritance just always saved 50%+ of income.
38, $14k in 401k, $260k in other retirement accounts, $50k in savings, and $340k left on the mortgage to pay off in another 27 years. Hubby has another $185k in 401k/retirement so maybe someday we can both get out of this crazy business?
23, Art Director. NYC. $3000 in savings. $1000 personally invested in stocks. Only $1500 in my 401k so far.
34. 10k cash, 60k 401k
30, ~80k liquid, more in retirement accounts I don't track
25, 40k cash, ~20k 401k & 50k mutual fund
34, AD, 20k 🤔
27, with 7K savings, 17K 401K and 3K Roth. Sadly... 38K student loans.
31, 60K in retirement accounts, 12k rainy day funds, and 20k equity in property
46. $60K cash. $130K ESPP. $23K IRA (languishing). House $220K left on mortgage (refinanced). Worth about ~$435K. 1 child off to college next fall.
27. Art director. $20k cash, $10k in 401k, $10k in IRA. Only been making good money for the past 6 months. Before that was freelancing and barely making ends meet.
34, producer. 3K cash, 55K IRA, 60K 401K, and paid off 28K in loans by 27. Didn’t start making decent money until 2017 and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to retire at 65.
Keep saving like you are and you absolutely will, you’re doing a great job!
30. 40k in 401k, 106k investments, 8K HYS. Lived at home for a couple years to pay off student loans (immensely helpful). I don't skimp on travel or seeing friends and save around 50% a year. My hobbies are cheap and I live in a low key spot regardless of income (i.e. haven't moved into the newer fancy buildings in NYC). I also don't go out to drink often. Hurts my body and wallet too much. I often think about "upgrading" my apartment to be one of those dope spots but at the end of the day I never felt like it would be worth it in the long term. I constantly feel like I need more but I don't. Damn ads everywhere.
35, Strategy director freelance.. $105k in 401k $40k AUD in Australian 401k.. 50k usd savings cash
35. 310k in 401k/brokerage.
25.

2k in Roth IRA
2k in some other investments
I can never tell if I have enough saved for my age and it's scary
A financial advisor can help immensely when it comes to figuring out cash flow and retirement readiness. I started with one 7 years ago when I had kids, and they helped us figure out life insurance needs, as well as retirement expectations and how much to put away each month. When I started with him, I was putting away a measly 5%. I’m now putting away 17% to retire at 65 and have enough cash flow until I die. Also helps that my wife will (should) retire with a pension. Couldn’t have figured that out without a professional.
34, I have $80k in 401k and retirement and $115k in savings. $5,000 in checking solely because rent hasn’t come out. :)
It should be way more. I’m so bad with money. 😢
Some if it was left to me so it doesn’t feel very accomplished.
