How safe is the area around 33rd station/the station itself at night? Small asian female not from nyc looking at an apartment a block away 👀

I can see how you are worried about being a female, but don't see how adding you are a petite Asian has any relevance in midtown. You should be fine but there are a lot of homeless but just pay them no mind like anyone else.

EY1 is right, though. There isn’t a -white- supremacist group targeting us.

My SO is a small asian female. We live a block away and have never had an issue. Stay alert and be smart and you will be fine. There’s a homeless shelter on 32rd between park and lex. Never had an issue walking by even late at night.

The homeless people just keep to themselves? I’m moving to area full of several homeless hotels and wondering the same thing

I lived on 30th and 2nd and routinely walked to that subway station or by it on my way to K-Town. Area is really safe. As with most areas now, there are the occasional homeless out but they are generally harmless.

Midtown east is usually pretty safe, mostly working professionals that don’t have time to bother anyone.

At Park?

I lived off that stop for 17 years (2001-2018). It is a very safe area. Like everything else - keep situational awareness, don’t be super impaired ok anything, and you will be fine.

I live right by the station. Very safe.

Feel free to DM me for more info!

You should be safe in that area. Chin up, watch out and carry pepper spray. Cheers from another fellow petite woman.

I’m moving away from that area to UES cuz I don’t feel safe

I was in the 80s by 2nd Avenue. The whole area has turned into Penn Station Part 2

I lived on 34th and 9th for a year without any issue and I walk around a lot. I personally wouldn’t walk by myself after, say, 10PM anywhere and I live in the WV now, so can’t say if it’s less or more safe than any other neighborhood at that hour. I think if it’s a great apartment go for it!

Lives there for three years when I was in my young 20s, never had an incident (I’m a woman)

OP, first of all, welcome to NYC! Fellow Asian here.

As many said, the experiences vary but in general please be vigilant and cognisant of your surroundings - more “street smart”

Please DM if I can be helpful. It will be a great experience!

I live near that station. I went on 9pm daily walks during COVID as a petite pregnant lady and never felt unsafe. Go for it!

F 🐠, is it just me or are you also getting tired of the long hair/facial hair/don’t care look on men? Covid lockdown made everyone more relaxed about grooming habits, but I wish this particular look was never made this commonplace…it just looks unkempt to me 🙈

Was at an event recently. Seems like advertising really only cares about diversity as it applies to white women. I think this industry wants to stay white.

Any nurses here transition completely out of healthcare and into tech and hit $150k with their first tech job? I have my associate in nursing with 10 years of hospital experience. Im trying to figure out if I should get a bachelors in computer science or just get a certificate in my preferred area of computer science. I want tech companies to take me seriously and want to crack $150k with my first job. My nursing job now pays 130k. What area of tech would even pay that much as a newbie?

I got a bonus from my old Boston based employer in January 2021, by which time I’d moved to NYC for business school. I’m moving back to Boston after school so did not declare permanent residency here in NYC (vote and driver licensed in MA). So my domicile is in MA even though my current residence is in NY. Do I have to pay NY taxes on this bonus?

Hi, anyone successfully subletting their apartment (TF Cornerstone)? Would love to know how you went about it. Thank you in advance.

Never been skiing before...where do you put your stuff (wallet, phone, etc)? Does everyone typically carry all of their things in their pockets or is it common to wear a backpack?

Trying not to look like an idiot newb or be carrying things that are in the way.

Upstairs neighbor is super loud because he has full hard wood floors and walks around like he doesn’t care. I knocked on his door for the first time and told him he’s being super loud and asked him to be more mindful. He agreed, but I don’t think it’s going to change since he’s just walking. My complex has an 80% carpet rule that he’s not following (I literally saw nothing but hardwood floor in his place when he opened his door). I’m trying not to be a Karen about it, but my whole apartment…

Me & my roommate had a great outdoor area (terrace of about 200/300 square feet) in Brooklyn. However, it’s all stone pavers & I’m trying to figure out the best way to add some green/plants plus add additional privacy between the common & private space. Selfishly, my window looks out to all the air conditioning units so hoping for something with a little height.

Any recs for plants (either aesthetic or practical), planters, outdoor furniture that isn’t stupid expensive & won’t immediately die?

Hopping on another thread here but does anyone know where you can learn how to bike in the city? Never got around to learn it and want to try it out! 😭
