How screwed am I if I quit during busy season? I consider jumping off a ledge on a daily basis. Been working busy season hours since October with a passive aggressive senior who makes me miserable.

Quit. It’s not worth it

like

You neeed to do what is right for you. The firm will do what is right for them. If that means they don't need you tomorrow you will be fires tomorrow

like

Life is short. Line something up and then get out.

like

Jump ship now. No job is worth sticking it out for if it makes you miserable. Your happiness is way more important! And who cares about being screwed. Do you really think they consider how convenient it would be when they discuss firing/laying off someone? Nahhh they just do it when they think of it. So why shouldn’t you!?

like

Look out for number one. Your mental health is important. Trust me if the firm lost your audit and didn’t have anywhere else to put you, they’d fire your ass without thinking of it

like

It will be a very uncomfortable conversation but the the upside is immeasurable as u will get your life back and stop being a slave that’s taking you nowhere. Lastly after you quit you will most likely never see these people again so Highly recommended...

like

I agree with the sentiments above. Don’t worry about reputation / burning bridges. You gotta do what’s best for your sanity.

like

Before quitting put laxative in the seniors coffee and f up his or her workpapers

January and February are the best times to find a job, currently waiting to see if an offer comes in, I interviewed right before holidays so maybe In the next 2 weeks I will have an offer and finally escape this prison.

like

If you're that unhappy you need to leave. I'm sure it's affecting your life way more than you think and it's probably affecting your work output as well. For everyone involved (but obviously most important for you), just jump ship and save yourself

like

It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s left your firm during busy season and it won’t be the last. I think you should do what is right for you.

like

Maybe wait, I felt like that last year and it worked out . Unless you hate your team too, I just had an issue with my manager, so I stayed through busy season But I was pretty checked out.

like

I would take a wait and see approach. First, have you spoke with HR and / or your coach. Perhaps they can help you transition to a more supportive and learning team environment. If you have spoken to these individuals and nothing has improved I would look for another job. However, I would keep in focus tax reform. At both Big 4 and at clients this is going to be a busy year regardless.

like

tell them you wanna quit and be honest why. see what theyre willing to offer you whether itd be a switch or some time off. if youre valuable to them they find something to keep you happy for a little bit. then use that time to find something else if the new deal isnt working for you

like

Major metro, it may not follow you. Something lined up?

I enjoy BDO and have no intentions of leaving but I spoke with 2 partners from smaller, regional firms and they both offered $12k/$13k bumps to leave and join them for busy season

And I’m only a 2nd year Staff

I hope I'm not you're Sr. Not that I mind catching the shaft- I just hope I'm not passive-aggressive.

Since October 2016 or 2017? I’ve been since Jan 2017 but still not ready to jump ship

@SM1 that’s hilarious. why didn’t I think of that before I quit?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

At the end of the day though our values weren’t in alignment - he became very conservative over the years (or more open about his perspectives on it).. such that he thought being gay is something not to be discussed/ encouraged, abortion should be illegal etc. And just felt an inconsistency with his level of compassion/empathy that was confusing bc it felt hot and cold

If you are starting as an Audit Associate some time from now with Deloitte or any of the big 4, do they expect you to have passed/completed all 4 parts by the time you start? Received the Becker Reimbursement email from the recruiter not too long ago but have yet to start. I’ve seen plenty of people get to Senior at a big 4 firm without the CPA so I am a bit confused in that aspect. Any helpful feedback will be very much appreciated.

Considering to join PWC. What are some benefits that PWC offer? (e.g. paid time off for senior, insurance, and so on)

like

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
