Totally! If it seems interesting always take the interview. If nothing else it’s good practice and you can always decide from there if it feels like a good fit. It also never hurts to be in touch with recruiters for good agencies before you need a job.
Agreed!
And don’t count yourself out by telling them you’re not sure you’re ready for the role. Take the call, learn what they’re looking for. You might surprise yourself and realize it’s a great fit! Or, it might reinforce that your needs and opportunities are being met right where you are. Remember, men apply for jobs where they meet <60% of the qualifications, whereas women generally only apply if they meet 99% to the criteria. Work to change the %! You got this.
My first AE role was through a reach out! I didn’t think I was ready either, but you should always be looking at the job above yours anyways. You’ll be great!
Go for it! The only way you’re going to grow is if you take on new opportunities and challenges! 99% of the difference between an aae and an ae is confidence, so if you tell yourself you can do it, you’re practically there.
Also, always respond to the recruiters reaching out because who knows when you’ll need them in the future. Even if it’s just a short “thanks for connecting! I’m happy where I am right now, but keep me posted as new opportunities come across your desk, because you never know when things may change. Thanks!”
Always take the call.
I think it’s incredibly mature of you to admit that you don’t feel ready, but agree with the above. Go for it - there’s nothing to lose! And if it still feels like a great opportunity after a few chats, go for it and work into the AE role. You got this!
Take the call. Going on interviews is a lot like dating. Have as many conversations and learn about as many different roles as possible, so you can understand what’s right for you. Also when you’re feeling like you’re not ready, remember that you wouldn’t get an offer if they didn’t feel you were up to snuff.
I’m not sure I’m ready to be an AE yet... I’m happy with my current role, but it’s a great agency and would definitely challenge me/push me outside of my junior comfort zone... any thoughts? Worth reaching back out to the recruiter?
Thank you both! Maybe I’ll at least respond and go from there - thank you!!
Thank you all! Feeling encouraged and will definitely be applying (at least to have the experience/learn more about the process) - thank you again!!
I almost always respond because you never know when you’re agency will lose a client and you get kicked to the curb. Have those phone calls now so later you already have a relationship.
