How short a time are you forced to stay at a company you despise so that it doesn't look like job hopping on your resume? 6 months?

If you don't do it 3 or 4 companies in a row I think even 1-2 months is okay as long as you can explain why it wasn't a good fit for you

Leave out 1-2 months jobs. They wouldnt know in the first place.

I don’t think it’ll look like job hopping at all as long as it’s not something you’re doing multiple times in a row.

Agreed with the above comments. If you know it’s not the right place leave ASAP, and learn from the experience. Just don’t do that a bunch of times in a row.

If you've only been there a short time, leave before it's even a gap on your resume. then you won't have to explain it at all.

Personally, I think if you can discuss this as a narrative you’re going to be okay. I started at X role at X Co. doing ABC and really achieved DEF but I actually found a much better position at Y Co. Before I transitioned off, I made sure that LIST was complete and did ACTIVITY to lower the manpower for coverage (if possible).

If you are miserable, you CAN just leave and omit from your resume if appropriate. Otherwise, if you are able to stick it out, yeah, I'd say 6 months is good

Either leave in the first month so it doesn't look weird not including it in your resume, or stay for minimum 6 but preferably 12 months.

6 months. Leave immediately in toxic situations

Hello everyone,
I was considering going freelance as a Front End Developer and was wondering if anyone here had any luck with that and what platform you used?

I’m a new grad seeking validation (or opinions) for my recent job offer choice.

Basic info
- Age: Early late-twenties.
- First regular job after graduating masters + my formal edu background was in urban planning.
- Chose a hybrid design/prototyping/coding role at a top-notch agency over a frontend developer role at one of the e-commerce giants.
- Would like to work in giant tech companies eventually.

Currently unsure if I want to follow a UX or a frontend.

I've been a developer for almost a decade. I look at other developers with similar number of years of experience and I feel like a fraud because they seem so much better. Does everyone go through this?

How much does Microsoft pay their entry level designers? The pay must be worth it right since designers go there to die. The bar to entry seems to be extremely low as Microsoft hasn’t produced anything remotely attractive visual / experience wise in the last decades. A company with over 100,000 designers but nobody has any eye for visual design or what LOOKS good… there’s a reason they’re not respected in tech and nobody’s first choice.

I don’t see a lot of Canadian professionals on here, but thought I’d give this a try anyway. Is anyone willing to share their salary as a Data Scientist in Canada (Toronto/Vancouver specifically).

I recently started a role as a data scientist at a DTC e-commerce company and want to get an idea of how my compensation compares — I negotiated and landed at 96K. For context, I have a degree in CS and just over 4YOE

Hello fellow Fish, I need some guidance about next career moves/paths. I am currently a SME for Customer Tech Support, but want to grow more personally/professionally. What other roles similar to like Product Management, Project Management, and Technical Support Management should I consider as a vertical movement? I have a family, so I dont really want to travel as much, but I want to break into management of some kind. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Which function in tech has the best earning and impactful work?

Planning to exit to tech, and I know product managers probably make the most $ but I find their jobs seem to be too much in the weeds. Can be demotivated especially when you just start and work on product with small scale and niche audience. Am I wrong here?

What are some other functions to consider with good $ and impact?
- Strategy & Operations
- Product marketing
- Business development?

What is the expected compensation range for a L5 Tech PGM role at Google? I made it to the second round of interviews and have been asked to provide my salary expectation.

I received a job offer and I gave them a range and they offered 10k less than my low end plus a 5k sign on bonus. I really wanted my high end of the range but was uncomfortable with asking and caught off guard. The job title is manager, customer success. It is a small startup under 20 employees. Any suggestions on how to negotiate? They also offered ESO….
