I’m getting into much more proposal and BD work. Trying to get a better understanding of FCCOM and how that’s calculated, and why it’s needed in certain bids. Any input would be much appreciated.

My two best friends had a conflict over the weekend and have basically cancelled all of our plans for the rest of the month. As in they refuse to see each other. I don’t think the situation warrants this type of response, but neither of them are very practiced in healthy conflict resolution so this is just the approach they know best. Now I’m stuck in the middle.
I passed my PhD! After spending my first year in law writing up my thesis, passing the Viva, etc., I feel like I am finally free of academia and 100% a new lawyer. Please let me know your celebration recommendations!

I’m a first year at big law and people tell me how important it is to be friends with fellow first years. The thing is, I’m a huge introvert and tbh I don’t fit in with other first years. I’m the oldest by a lot, the only minority, and one colleague is a sexist (and low key quite racist) white dude so completely blind to what’s happening outside of his privileged world. when I was trying to share how I was feeling about certain situation he switched to talk about how HE felt about all this.
I’m putting together a writing sample for some job applications. The sample I want to use is about 30 pages. Since the writing sample is so long, should I do an excerpt of it? Or is that an acceptable length?
Has anyone else felt like you tend to get relegated to a more administrative role in your cases where men (even junior to you) take on a substantive role? How did you handle it?
Thoughts on nose rings in big law? I’ve always wanted a cute, small stud, but was dissuaded by my boomer aunt (also an attorney) who thought it looked unprofessional…
Are there any books/blogs etc that I can read to understand project finance and M&A deals? My background is project development and just now lateraled to a team dealing with PF/M&A and am entirely clueless. Any tips to build knowledge?
Hubby: What's wrong? You're grumpy.
Me: *senior associate who also handled daycare drop off and pick up today, and gymnastics class while my husband napped from 4pm to 530pm* Nothing is wrong. I'm just tired.
Hubby: FROM WHAT?!
Thoughts and prayers for my husband please.

How to handle off-putting comments from men? I’m a 3rd year in insurance law and we use generally use this one claim/risk analyst. Just called him about one case (cont’d in comments).
Does anyone else feel the need to agree with counsel for other parties in cases where there are dozens of parties? Or when there are many attorneys attending a deposition, the need to limit your questions to make time for everyone? I’m young and it seems like I feel that pressure more than other senior attorneys in cases, and I wonder if I should adopt their mindset. I just want to also look reasonable amongst other local lawyers and not pompous or unnecessarily combative.
A friend asked me and my husband to take out her SO for his birthday. Is it an awkward ask or am I being difficult?
Feeling left out from my male associates. I am a first year associate at V100. The office and practice group I am at is small though. In the group there are 2 other male associates about 4-5 years older than me. They have known each other for awhile before working at the firm and are very close. Adjusting to the office is hard and I feel very left out and not included. Any advice on trying to bond with them? I just really wish I had another associate I could lean on and relate to.
Any other female attorneys out there sick of getting assignments that are more appropriate for paralegals/assistants?

It depends how tall you are. Shorter women can get away with an inch or two above the knee. Probably 3 inches max. Taller women should be at or slightly above the knee.
With opaque tights you could wear a skirt that's 3/4 of the way to your knees maybe.
I think it also depends on the type of skirt- loose or tight
I stick to just above the knee as a general rule, keep in mind how much of your leg is exposed when you sit down or if there are any walking slits (particularly ones in the back that you may not notice go really far up).
I use the same rule that I had to follow in Catholic school — has to be longer than your fingertips when arms are at your side.
Ok well under this rule I'm doing fine, but under above I am def too short lol 😅
If you have to ask then it’s probably too short.
The limit does not exist
@a2 in which direction do you think? Fitted pencil skirts can be shorter than skater skirts because they stay in place better when you bend over? Or the opposite?
Also heels will affect how short a skirt looks.
I think tight short skirts are more inappropriate than looser short skirts- partially a butt/body con thing. I don’t do much bending over outside of my private office! Agree, I always wear flats
2 or 3 inches is totally fine (and honestly anything longer tends to look frumpy IMO). I just make sure that nothing shows if when I bend over or sit down.
I am 5'7" and I have a short torso w long legs. This post is making me realize I have definitely been breaking the skirt length norms/rules this summer. It's hard finding skirts/dresses that look long enough 😭 - I never wear anything that would show my butt or anything, but "knee length" skirts tend to hit me 4+ inches above the knee
I’m 5’4 and skirts are way too long on ne
