How should a junior associate Bill for reading emails just keeping up with what is happening on a deal? Or should we not bill this?

“Review and consider correspondence from X re: Y”

I would replace consider with assess, something more active, for a fussy client

like

Roll it into the task. Is the email about the purchase agreement? Add it to “prepare, edit and revise purchase agreement.” Is it related to the deed of trust? Add it to “prepare, edit and revise deed of trust.”

If you can’t do block billing, do short entries with similar descriptions. Avoid “correspondence / calls re purchase agreement”.

I think this doesn't work when that's the only thing you're billing for that day, for the reason Associate Attorney 2 points out.

Unless your client prohibits block billing, just roll it up into the more substantive task. There's no reason for your client to really care about this.

Related question for folks: how long do you typically spend per deal per day just doing this? Is it 0.1, 0.1, 0.1 or 0.25, 0.25, 0.25?

like

Depends on how much is going on with the deal, typically anywhere from .1 to .5 in total

I've completed 3 professional certifications in the last 1 year including ServiceNow CSA, ServiceNow CIS - ITSM, and ITIL 4 Foundations. My current CTC is INR 11 LPA and I'm due for an appraisal next month. Can you guys please help me suggest the package that I should ask for during the HR negotiation?
