Hi all,
I’m currently a risk consultant (~6 months) within financial services at PwC and very interested in IB for its work around strategy and finance. I was wondering if anyone can offer any insight on whether I should try and switch now while I’m early in my career (graduated in 2020) or should I aim to get into IB after MBA in 4-5 years? Thanks! 🙌 Hands in the air for that dual monitor life!
Life is too short to be stuck in a job you hate
If you do it a lot that might be an issue, but an occasional quick out is sometimes necessary. We’ve all been there.

I've seen less than a week a few times.
lol I am 7 months in and desperately looking for new jobs already
I would be thinking of the same thing but I promise no one will remember that but you. No one will look at your updated status and gossip that it didn't work out! And if anyone ever did ask, there's no shame in saying it just wasn't the right fit and turning it into a valuable lesson learned.
Left after six weeks. When you know it's wrong, you know. Don't give them more of your precious time.
Happened to me in October. I left after three months. It’s more common than you think! Feel free to leave it off of LinkedIn if it’s a short stint

Just put your humanity before any gross corporate BS.
Stay at least until lunch.
(You don’t have to go back afterwards.)
If it’s not a fit, just go. Better to do it quickly and respectfully rather than linger at a job you hate and it will probably show in the work. I just had a junior person on one of my teams leave after just a few months. She ultimately didn’t want to be in the industry. Kinda sucks to replace her in this market but no hard feelings.
I don’t think there’s a timeframe. It sucks for the agency but you gotta do you. If you know it’s not right. Duck out.
If it sucks and you got a new job it’s never too early
For those who left quickly after realizing you didn’t like the new gig: how did you address the situation in interviews?
Faster is better, but ideally when the next job is one you want versus one you can get
I knew a girl who was so fed up, she stepped out for lunch one day and didn’t come back. When you know, you know. Get out!
Not soon enough my friend. Call it a day when it isn’t working out; but make sure to really evaluate what it is you’re trying to leave. Advertising is advertising, but a bad boss can make or break that experience entirely.
Between 3 months and 1 year (3 months or below is fine as you’re still evaluating). But honestly no one cares these days imo
How soon is now?
Leave when you’re ready to leave. There are no time rules.
