Are take home assignments the norm for director of product interviews?

I'm interviewing for a director of product role at a not-for-profit. I'm at the last interview. It is a panel interview, and I will be receiving a prompt that I should spend 3 to 6 hours on and then present to the panel 72 hrs later. I already had four separate interviews with this company, one of which was what was with the acting CPO.

Is this the norm?

2 years in international tax, it seems that most of the openings for international are more on the management level. If I do go for a more general tax role will I have to start over?
