I always say looking for a new problem to solve. And it can different things to different people. For me, I like to explore different industries and that's one of the things I mention too
I’m right there with you for the industry. All my switches have been in a completely new industry. Already went through 4 but the question still bums me out. Because sure I want to solve problems but I think at least 60-70% of the time it’s taking care of the old stuff. Which is very valid. I think mainly when we are interviewing we are looking forward to new stuff rather than the old.
Well in that case, maybe it's not the right fit. It sounds like, They are just looking to maintain an older product and not have any big ticket features. Otherwise there's always something new to do.
I think I somewhat agree with them as well. You see about 1.5 years ago I started something new for a client from scratch. Until recently we were doing something new everyday. But slowly it’s getting more towards maintaining the platform now. Because from Technical standpoint we are done innovating but business is still onboarding people on the platform. So for technical guys me have it pretty slow now but business is hard at work. And that’s pretty much why I’m looking around.
I would answer being able to work for a smaller / bigger / international / x-tech company. Whatever differentiates your current company and the company you are interviewing for
