Tell Company B that you’ve received a verbal offer from another company and that you would like to hear a final decision from them asap (and feel free to share your deadline, if you have one).
And if you’re worried about scaring them away, then say how you’re still interested in the role with Company B and why they’re your first choice. But just know, having another offer shows that you’re very much hire-able and in demand. If anything, this will convince B to drop an offer if you are still in consideration.
“Hi, I wanted to circle back with you regarding when I should expect to receive my offer letter to look over? I am very excited to review it so that I can respond in an appropriate timeframe to the other offer(s) I have received.” Short, simple and direct. I recommend only making this play if they have already verbally communicated they would be putting an offer letter together to send and you actually have other legitimate interest from other companies. Keep me posted as I’m interested how this plays out for you!
VP1 — but did it work? 🤔
I have been interviewing with two companies, in parallel. Company A just made their verbal offer. It's good and I'd accept as is, but have already told them I'll counter.
Company B is likely to offer more comp than A if the initial ranges I discussed hold true. I've had my final interview with B and am waiting to hear from them. It could be that I'm no longer being considered, but either way I would like to know for certain.
How do I politely ask company B to hurry up? Or do I ask at all for fear of hurting my chances?
I haven’t actually done this- but from my understanding- If you tell the second company, that you need to respond to first company by xyz date about their offer, they’ll usually try to speed things up
I’ve been there. I tell company b that I’ve gotten an offer, but am interesting in them.
And if company b is interested, then they will give you an offer. If they aren’t, then they will stall.
At the same time, stall with company a. Negotiate for a higher salary and better benefited. Ask for additional information on working conditions/clients/team.
But don’t let it go too long. You can buy a week with this tactic.
