Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn!
I try to make as much like home as possible. I unpack everything and use the drawers on long trips. Try to also get into workout routines or any other routines you do at home. Last, and most important for me, have all chores done before you leave on your trip. Coming home to a clean place with some food/drinks, etc. made a huge difference for me.
This is SO ME! I unpack right away and make sure dishwasher is empty, trash is taken out, bed is made. I’ve a significant other so I never come back to the home the way I left it but I always tell him, this is what I like to come back to. One day he will get there ;)
I travel often. As others mentioned, chores should be done before you leave. Laundry and unpacking happens ASAP when I get home.
Try to adopt normal life while traveling. I eat at normal places (Chipotle or go to the grocery store) and avoid mid-week drinking unless it's a real fun occasion. I go to a non-hotel gym if the hotel gym sucks. I try to talk with my wife for at least 20 minutes and also do some light reading. Squeezing all that in plus work usually puts me in bed by 11pm at the latest.
Also, if I'm traveling all week and have lots of flying/airport time, you can better believe I'm dissapearing on Friday.
I traveled almost weekly for 12 years. Like others have said, routine is key. I liked to fly the same route when I could, same hotel, same car rental, etc so that it you no longer have to stress about how that part of the week will go. Then you find a grocery store, gym, target, etc and set up your second home base. Finding healthy food options is key. Full weeks of nice dinners and drinks will drag you down fast. And finding ways to sleep well is key. I traveled with a tiny humidifier and had a white noise app.
If you are booked for several trips some hotels may let you leave a toiletry bag over the weekend. A guy on my team did this, dropped his clothes off at the cleaners on the way to the airport each week & picked them up when he came in. He flew back and forth with just a laptop bag.
Also key is finding the ways to reward yourself. Are there fun things to explore in the evening, do you want to do alternative weekend travel and go somewhere that's not gone for the weekend. Or would you rather work a lot while you are gone so you get more free time when home
So many suggestions. What parts are causing the burnout (away from home, flying, restaurants, etc)
All of the above, but mainly away from home, adjusting to hotel life.
Are any of yall hiring? I am trying to switch from tax tech to management consulting in advisory!
Put your foot down, learn to say no, and travel less....
