Hey OP I used to really struggle with this. I’ve learned and accepted the only constant thing in life is change. The good news about this is that you haven’t yet met some of your best friends, haven’t yet made some of your favorite memories, have room and time for so many surprises, etc. As long as you continue to have a growth mindset, be resilient, and be flexible, every new life stage - and there will be many more that start and end - will be better than the last.

This is probably a healthy, great, positive transition for you, actually! Allows you to start anchoring your life and experience in YOURSELF — you & your interests & your goals at the center — instead of the crutch of what everyone else is doing. That’s empowering, and more mature.

^was gonna say something along these lines. Being more on your own will be uncomfortable at first, but it’ll allow you to do more things on your own and improve a lot as a person.

Since the start of the pandemic, I have been fairly safe and really haven’t gone anywhere (I think I went to TJ Maxx once in a moment of weakness lol). My family on the other hand hasn’t taken any precautions and actually did contract COVID. They keep telling me I’m paranoid and need to start going out but with COVID being worse now than it was back in March, I rather just not. I just want them off my back and wish they would respect my decision to not expose myself like I respected them.

Want to buy property in / near NYC. I know with covid prices in the city (I’m assuming the 5 boroughs) went down, while prices outside of the city went up. Is that enough of a move in the market to make it worth it to buy in the city (and not in Long Island for example)?

Fish Friends, what are the foods and recipes that you've started adopting in the COVID world? I'll start with my super easy flatbread pizza, improvised due to laziness and a lack of yeast and baking materials available. 2 cups of flour and a half cup of water. Add a pinch of salt and a drizzle of olive oil and knead. Then you just roll it out as thin as possible and add whatever you want! Anything! Bacon? Onions? Peppers? Mozzarella? Chuck the whole thing in a 500F oven for like 18-22 min.

What practice areas (if any) would be a natural move for a mid-level commercial real estate/finance associate? I started trying to leave my firm in February and, at the time, was super in-demand. Now, with Covid, commercial real estate is slow & I think I'll be stuck where I am for at least another year if I don't make a practice area shift. Are there any other practice areas where my experience would be valuable?

Seeking immigration / travel advise. I know we are not lawyers but any experiences / stories would be helpful. Can I enter the US when I have H1B change of employer petition approved but employed with my current company and serving notice period? Which company’s I-797 form do I show immigration? Do I tell them about switching jobs, etc.? My new company lawyers are not providing clear guidance on this and suggesting against travel due to COVID in general. Thank you.

Quite disappointed that Bain ignored “LGBT” term and instead referred it as “special group” during a Greater China pre-MBA info session, when asked whether Bain has LGBT diversity program. Bain changed its logo into Pride on LinkedIn but can’t recognize LGBT? I know it’s China, but expect Bain to be more supportive across the firm globally.

I have adhd and struggle with anxiety and depression. This year has been relentless. WFH and dealing with stress has destroyed my cognitive functioning. Im not as productive, work quality has suffered, I don’t interact as effectively as I used to. My performance has taken a hit - which my manager has noticed - and I can’t get back on track. I’m really trying. The fact that I’m worried about my job makes things even worse. Any advice for how to overcome this? (Beyond therapy/meds - already doing)

30 m ny/nj. US citizen. Moved as a teenager. INTJ. Single since I figured I’m not fighting the biological clock and have all the time in the world to meet someone and get settled. Things changed after I watched Akshay’s mom (Indian Matchmaking) tell him even 25 is too late and not marrying somehow messes up lives of people around him. While the show was staged, there might be truth to the latter part. Looking for F in ny/nj. Personality: NOT Aparna. NOT Nadia but def more Nadia than Aparna.🙏
