Or…we could just do Medicare for all and call it a day.

Yeah completely socialized healthcare w/o private option sucks, grew up in a country with it and prefer the hybrid approach of both public & private

Now I have been thinking about this for a while, the easy fixes to me seem like: 1. Ban deductibles and bake that into premiums. Yes they will go up for everyone, but that’s normal in insurance to spread the cost. 2. All emergency care by law deemed as in network. Seems so obvious to me this one. If you can’t plan it, it has to be covered. If you can plan it, yes make someone go to one in network, fine. 3. Have a central list (FDA?) of medicines/services that have to be covered by insurance to stop companies being selective here. 4. Force every company to offer a min of 2 choices on healthcare. Not just one employer plan. Create real competition. 5. Create a real public option for everyone, and all employers have to offer this. And it should be free to everyone under $50k? Annual salary.

On #5 specifically - means testing is always ALWAYS bad. Make it free for everyone and raise taxes on rich and higher incomes if you want to make it progressive

I know it’s early but Christmas gift idea for a partner I work under. He’s been my mentor since I joined the office as a lateral and during COVID and the crazy m&a workload, he’s advocated for me and been incredibly humane, especially as someone who suffers from some mental health issues that were exacerbated by the pandemic. He’s the main reason I’m still surviving biglaw and haven’t left. Id like to get him something nice (is in his 60s). He doesn’t drink or else would have gone the fancy
