How to get an in house position? Sick of law firm life.

As a legal recruiter (and despite what many recruiters will have you believe), the majority of in-house moves come from relationships built in practice. You perform work for a given in-house entity, showcase your capabilities, and stick out when that entity has an in-house opportunity. Companies (especially start-ups) want to hire people they are comfortable with and generally do not want to budget for recruiting fees- they want to hire people they know and are familiar with. Your current task then is to make sure your firm is assigning you to the right clients and that you are given the face time opportunities to establish these relationships. Also, when an in-house offer comes about, make sure it is the right offer- it can be difficult to lateral from one in-house gig to another or back to a law firm. Feel free to DM if you have any further questions.

Networking, mostly. I got my current position via someone I knew in the industry. But also goinhouse.com is a worthwhile resource.

Hi everyone. I’m new here but I think I’ll get a lot of really good feedback. I work in government procurement. I worked remote during the pandemic and now my manager cannot see his way to letting us work from home. Our department is the only one in the organization that is in the office all the time. It is really hurting morale and, personally, making me look for something different. What is everyone’s experience with old school management? Thank you!

How do you approach collecting documents from a client in response to discovery requests? Particularly with broad and vague document requests that leave you guessing about what the other side is looking for, even after you meet and confer. So stuck. What do I do? I joined this firm a year ago (4 yrs exp total) to grow/get more court/client exposure. Then 2 more-experienced associates were hired, pandemic, & all cases are divided between the other 2. I have no defined tasks except deficiency letters or the odd pro bono case. Boss claims it's mentoring. I still need to meet bill req.

Last wk Boss said I'll do more & my work was good, but today said I can't 2nd chair bc I don't have experience. I'm doing less now than my prior firm.
