How to get over the fear of saying something during the meeting especially for those who don’t speak English fluently? 😢

You wouldn’t be invited to the meeting if people didn’t value your input. Constantly remind yourself that.

Its accurate enough. Maybe you’re there to take notes or something but it should be pretty clear to you if that’s your role.

I heard something recently that really stuck with me: ‘if you hear someone speaking with an accent it means they are smart enough and brave enough to speak a 2nd language”. I don’t know if it helps you, but I would never judge you for making a mistake in English. If anyone does judge you, they are the ones with the issue.

Command the room and believe in your thoughts. Not your fault you have an accent. They hired you regardless.

Take advantage of the weekend to play something online with other Americans. "Free Fire" or anything like that. I don't know if it improves your vocabulary, but at least you will stop being shy.

Trust me, most people really don't care. Most of us grow up hearing a variety of NNES accents and totally get it.

Immigrant here. The fear is real, I felt like that for a long time when I arrived in US even when people were supporting and already used to my rocky English. Start by trying hard to use simple vocabulary and be super straight forward. Like another tip here, I would say: i’ll use the 3 words from my vocabulary to say this, but just bear with me and go for it. And always follow up with an email to get all your thoughts accross.

like

Just start off with a small joke about your english before you begin. Make fun of yourself.. It will break the ice and keep your mind off the issue. If what you are presenting is good and relevant, they will listen regardless.

Does it mean anything if the guy doesn’t offer to pick you up? He has a car, I don’t. And we are going to a game in his neighborhood. I don’t mind getting my own ride, but he didn’t offer, and I feel 🫠🫠 no judging please 🤣

Hello Fishes,
I am a React Frontend Developer having 2+ years of experience.
I am looking for a job change. Currently I am paid 6 lpa(working on a contract basis) in Bangalore location .
What salary can I ask in the market now?
I am good at HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, React.

New to consulting/project and im having some issues with attention to detail. Team lead noticed this.

A new guy just joined my team and he took his minutes with no errors and lead made sure to explicitly praise him, and took a vague shot at me in an undertone.
The obvious answer is to take better notes, but how do I move forward knowing team lead feels that way ?

My daughter is a college student fresh into her career. She previously worked for T-Mobile in sales/customer service. She resigned from this role after 3 years for a better opportunity at a tech start-up. She was with the company for 3 weeks, today they called her and said they could no longer afford her salary and would be letting her go. They are paying her a small severance and allowed her to keep her equipment and office set-up. Does anyone know of any opportunities that are available?

Thoughts on receiving hand markups from a mid level as a junior? I assumed hand markups were a relic of the older generation, but it seems to continue. I don’t know why we have to perpetuate receiving illegible comments to documents. Younger lawyers who markup on their tablets: is this actually easier for you or are you doing it to seem more senior? Client is paying extra for me to parse your comments…

First time posting and I want some advice on negotiating salary. I got offered 69k as a consulting associate in Southern California. What would be a good starting number in the negotiations and what would be a good number to settle for?

SHOWER THOUGHT:

It’s widely documented that ethnic minorities are (unfairly) overrepresented in the justice system.

So why do agencies increasingly require background criminal checks before employing people, even for freelance. This seems like yet another barrier to entry. I am a white female and I consider myself lucky that I don’t have anything to worry about when I apply for a job, but I am starting to realize that’s just my privilege.

I made a post yesterday generally asking thoughts on being asked to do a design assessment as part of an interview. I just received the project, and it is a five page brief asking for 2-3 variations of two deliverables as part of a phase one campaign for an existing real product. I am to present, make changes live on the call, then give them my files by midnight the day after.

I feel like this is scamming me of my intellectual time with no guarantee of an offer. Am I justified or being cynical?
