How to get your credit score higher? Mines been stagnant for a while. Pay off CC in full every month and only at 3-5% utilization on average. Reasons listed for “lower credit” were: I don’t have enough loans / large loans, and my oldest account is only 8 years. The age thing I get but I’ve never understood the loans criteria. Isn’t lack of loans a good thing?

Do you actually need credit right now? If not, I would resist any temptation to do something unnatural just to boost your score. For example, if the main driver is not having enough large loans, I wouldn’t just go out to buy a car for the purpose of having a loan.

like

Having loans show more evidence you can pay back and will boost your credit

I've never understood that. Want to improve you're credit score? Take on more debt !

funny

It is true for stocks, but not for human behavior ;)

It’s counterintuitive, a lack of loans shows that you might be a risk because there’s no/little history of making on time payments. A large loan with a history of on time payments shows you’re reliable.

What's your score and why do you care about increasing it?

Of it's high 700s, you should get top rates anyway. Just let the age of the loans and other accounts progress.

One quick thing to do is pay your reported bills twice a month. This will lower your utilization. I pay after each paycheck. For me, the lease of mind of knowing I won't ever have a late payment is greater than the minimal interest o would gain by holding the money in savings and the hassle of having o transfer it to checking. I just don't spend that much each month.

It’s high 700s (FICO). The other bureaus are lower for some reason? Either way I was hoping to cross the 800 mark, admittedly only for perfectionist purposes.

Okay- thanks for that. Yes, have heard of that trick. Did it a couple times and am going to start doing that regularly.

Will taking a project with only adjusted utilization hurt me? If I meet utilization targets for adjusted utilization, but miss it for standard, will that count as not meeting the metric?

Edit: What is the best way to tell a PM or a PEP that this project isn't for you, and that it doesn't align with your career goals without getting kicked off too soon to negatively impact your utilization? The project is ABSOLUTELY horrendous and a mess. It is glorified admin work which is not what I want to do. Is there a way to tell that to senior management without getting a negative reaction?

A previous employer reached out and offered me a Senior Product Designer role with a 40% increase base salary. I am considering this, as I have been feeling under utilized at my current role + dealing with of uncertainty lately. But I would be forfeiting a lot of RSUs if I leave. I am in the middle of my vesting period (2/4 yrs), and this year alone would have 256 shares vesting (~$500 share price). The new role will come with shares, but at a small share price.
