Attrition+economic slowdown and tech layoffs, mixed bag it seems. What are your opinions on this ? Will there be good hike next season or any talent retention steps to be taken here? Deloitte Deloitte USI

When I worked in industry, I worked at a company that had frequent lay offs. I focused on being prepared for the worst case scenario. I updated my resume and my LinkedIn (turned on recruiting settings). I also budget more carefully - didn’t commit to any long term things. I didn’t move to a new apartment with a one year lease. It’s completely normal to feel anxious
Brush up your CV and interview skills just in case and go to a couple more events than usual to network. And don't panic and keep doing a good job at your firm.
I got laid off about four years ago and it sucked — I also don’t think I really kept my sanity well during the process, I felt a lot of stress and anxiety and fear about what was coming. As much as you can (and I know there’s a limit here) focus on those things that are within your control: update your resume, start reaching out to your network, start applying to jobs. If you don’t get laid off these are good things to have done anyway. If you do get laid off, you’ll be in a much better position to move forward. In my case, I wound up with two job offers before my end date with my company, and being so engaged in interviewing at the time I received my lay-off notice also helped me mentally recover a little faster. Next quarter and I have no idea how much my department would be affected. It would be hard for me to afford not having a job since I have debt and I’m in my own. Do I start passively applying for jobs now just in case? What’s a good approach here?
I just finished interviewing and job searching 6 months ago, it took me nearly a year to find a job I wanted and now this :(
I’m so sorry to hear that. You’re in Data Analytics which is a growing field (not sure where you’re located) but there are jobs. You also made contacts with people during that process so, make sure to reach back out to them
Thanks for everyone’s input. If I start sending out resume right now, what’s a good reason to give while looking 6 months in at the new job? Is it better to say something about the wrong fit or potential restructuring?
You should say potential restructuring because that makes it less “about you” and more about the company
I’ve been through 3 layoffs in my short career - mainly due to 2008 and poor financial forecasting. Good luck and keep your chin up OP. Update your LinkedIn and resume, and see what happens. I always started interviewing before (even if I didn’t 100% love the job description - it’s such good practice) Just remember your confidence and have trust that you will land somewhere great!
I agree with others- update your resume and start applying for jobs. This way you’re more likely to have a pipeline if you do get laid off (fingers crossed that won’t happen!!). There is an Exit Opportunities bowl you can post in if you are looking for info or referrals to specific companies.
