To be honest, it sounds like you’d be more at home at OW Labs in a Consulting role. These are consultants first and foremost, but with a technical bent and a desire to mainly work on projects where some kind of analytics or engineering is needed to achieve the scale and sustainability the client needs.
The role is sort of in between a generalist consultant and a tech specialist (eg pure data scientist / data engineer), but it’s not about ‘translating’ so much as synthesizing business and technical input to come up with practical solutions.
Leverage the knowledge by using it as a primary part of your job? Or just have an extra set of valuable skills on top of being a generalist consultant?
Gamma here, tough to do "Data Science" but just the consulting bit. AI roadmap, idea, etc. won't mean much until you build a prototype, pilot, deploy in production to really create value for the client. That is what we're doing. That's why plenty of generalists made the switch and they never looked back.
I've been curious about making a transition, but also don't know where I'd fit in without dropping my DS skills altogether.
So far the cards have been falling around providing training and discovering DS opportunities for my team, but this still involves diving the database and modeling, so isn't much of a departure
