If the software is direct to consumer then it’s easier.
- How much revenue will the feature bring?
- How much effort will the feature cost?

If the software is internal then it’s more difficult.
- What features have the highest visibility?
- What features do high profile stakeholders want?

In either case, don’t forget about cleaning up tech debt

So, around 2 months ago I was hired by this company as a DevOps Engineer. For the first few weeks, I was involved in architecting one of their products, writing IaaC to set up the environment, and researching about proper SecretOps, pretty much standard DevOps stuff. Since last month they've been assigning me tasks on the backend, and I'm coding on python (Django) for almost a month now. I had good backend experience so it wasn't much of a hard task for me. But am I doing it wrong?

Hey everyone.

With recession insight in upcoming months. Which industry do you think would be most impacted and how much impact do you reckon will it have on our jobs?

Will recession hit service based IT companies more or the product based IT companies? In Product based, which industry will be most impacted. Will it be travel based companies, or financial banks based companies, or E commerce/consumer based companies, or any other? Where do you see the maximum impact?

I recently started my first post-college job as a software developer and have to make a decision pretty soon: front-end development or back-end development. I really like being closer to the user and the creativity as far as front-end. But I also reallly really enjoy math and logic and the more complex side to back-end. My dream would be to do full stack but thats not an option. Scared of getting pigeon holed. Any suggestions as to what to do / tips?

I currently work as an SAP consultant with about 1 year of experience now. I am interested in changing my career path to software engineering. I’ve been doing research on how much the software industry will grow and I want to make my way into tech. I have a BS in MIS but need to work on my coding skills and gain experience. How do people feel about coding bootcamps? Some universities such as UCI and CSULB have full stack and software dev bootcamps. Is this a good way to break into software?

For people who love reading technical books on software architecture, design, programming languages and frameworks, etc - what do you read your books on, paper or screen? I find ebooks convenient for most of the things as it is easier to search for notes and annotations. On the other hand, paper books are a great companion by the desk for a quick reference.

My manager had been saying some REALLY over the line stuff in standup meetings. Truly inappropriate details about his sexuality and also some stuff about my religion etc. We (the software developers) told HR. They spoke to him and he stopped being a weirdo but the company never addressed it further with us. Is that normal? I’ve never been a part of an HR investigation before and I don’t know what to expect

I have been working in SEA region last 4 years. I feel burned out. I have 10yoe, I have try to move to other country but I pretty much suck in LeetCode. I want to take some time off to unwind, finish some personal business, and really prepare for interviews. I would like to hear from you. Should I quit to my current manager(5th so far) or wait after mid year performance review, when a new boss will take over my team? I'm thinking on giving them 2 months notice period. By contract is 1.

Thanks

Our temp who has about as much experience as me but is definitely not as good at getting things done told me that he makes $115k while I’m just making 95k. I spend so much time teaching and training him. Almost as much time as I spend doing my own work. Been at the company for a year. Learned so much since I started and invested lots of my own money into more tech training that the co refused to pay. Is it realistic to get up to 115k soon or should I find another job?
