I’ve worked in PA for almost 2yr and have got my CPA. However, there are times when I feel like my brain is so slow when understanding client’s JE flow esp when it comes to accrual/reserve and where manual AJEs are involved etc. I feel like understanding accounting in the context of audit is different from doing the actual corporate accounting. Over 5 years client facing experience in both roles at the same company but in digital adv. I’m looking to switch to SaaS as an AM or AE but seems there’s no way to get in without SaaS experience. Having anxiety. I started at a new firm recently. I’m on east coast time and my colleagues are on west coast time. The deal was relatively quiet up until 10 pm PT. I turned in my portion and asked my senior if I could be of any help or if I was okay to sign off for the evening (1am ET). Was this a mistake? Did I make a bad impression by asking if I could log off? I was clear that I was ready and available if there were tasks I could help with.

Is it possible to switch practice groups as a mid level? I loved international law/ trade, but sort fell into antitrust as a junior and starting to feel kind of stuck.

Can personality make up for work product? I’ve worked on two matters with a first year that multiple partners have referred to as a “superstar.” Their work was just fine on both matters and downright wrong on certain issues/points. I’ve definitely been more impressed by other first years in this class. However, this first year is incredibly outgoing and some would probably consider them “charming” (comes across as a borderline sociopath imo). Could that be why partners think so highly of them?

Urgent since I have to make a decision by today. I have two offers: one is general real estate (a variety of work) and the other is focused on real estate finance. I’m a junior associate and I’ve been leaning toward the latter since the team seemed to be more flexible.
