How to stay engaged and perform for a project you really don’t give a fuck about? Still have 4 more months and relatively new to the firm so rolling off isn’t an option

I've found that many things in life are cyclical. Valleys followed by peaks followed by valleys. Your career is usually similar (relative to itself). Endure the valley and you'll reach the peak. How? I often think its magic, can't explain. Things just fall into place. Example: After 5y, 2 bachelors, a 4.00 GPA average I found myself rejected at final round interviews from all 3 MBB and even some random F500 jobs. T2s and below didnt want to sponsor. I also did 0 networking so even all B4 didnt give me interview because I didn't go to their event or whatever where they just write your name on a list. I just spent 5 years of my life, aged 20 years, destroyed my brain through metric tons of stimulants, dumped $300k for no job? Even S&O rejected me (presumably for having too many final rounds with MBB, I killed those cases). Then I just networked and applied to another BCG office and everything magically fell into place. And then 2 boutiques in Boston area came through. And then cool gig in London. And Switzerland for a holding company of my dads friend. All in 1 month. Tl;dr endure the suck it'll get better

Similar situation for me. I try to learn about new things that might not really pique my interest but will be applicable down the road to have at least some sort of knowledge about. I also bounce from the office around 5pm to get a good workout in to reduce stress and if I have to I’ll jump back onto the laptop at night to finish any work. Do whatever you can to stay engaged, if the next project also sucks then start looking for something better for yourself.

Knowing the time frame of when that frustration will end is a luxury in itself. Each day on that project is a value add on your resume considering you just started. Focus on the small upsides to the project. Hang in there!

All of it.

Try to find highlights. Enjoy the suck more by changing the lense, tint or perspective of it. Accept your situation. See if you might have things that are good in it. And heck if that's impossible entirely to change your mindset. Audio books in the bathroom? Lunch off site? Whatever gets you through and keeps you performing. Why performing? Because we want to show and be able to ask for better more relevant projects.
