How tough is it to exit at audit manager and find manager level job in industry? Is it common, or do people usually want to see some operational experience first?

I think you’re undervaluing yourself. Industry would jump to bring you in at a lateral rank. You’re experience though should demand a premium. Shoot for a Senior Manager or Director position in industry

I left EY as a manager for a CPA firm that pays base salary >20% above big 4. We get overtime if we work over 45 hours a week, travel bonuses up to 25% of base salary if we travel, profit sharing since there aren't a million partners to take all of the profits, and you get 3% of the client fees if you're on a client longer than 3 months. Plus, audit is optional. You can work in M&A, CFO advisory, treasury, reporting, etc. I'd never have those experiences staying at EY. Oh, and our trainings are in Vegas, not Secaucus.
