I find the expectations to be quite clear (even if relatively high level and abstract) if you’re having frank conversations about wanting to grow into the next role with your managers and your coach. Generally, you’d expect: 1-2 years from A to SA 6mo to 1.5 years at every other level, with high performers getting promotions every 6mo

funnylike

It's highly variable. There are a very small number of people who fly up, but expectations are not always clearly laid out and vary across managers / leadership so to an extent promotion chances can depend on who you are staffed with. For most people, first promotion will be in the 1.5 - 2 (or even 2.5 years)

“High-performers” defined as those who suck up to leadership the most and throw their teammates and/or junior staff under the bus when things go off the rails Most people, post-college or post-PhD, leave within 1-1.5 years due to the toxic work culture. Despite what the recruiting team will tell you, ClearView’s attrition is far worse than other comparable consulting firms

like

Yea no this is just someone salty. Reality is every person I know labeled as a “high performer” genuinely deserved that praise through consistent demonstration of going above and beyond. Yes that means they pulled absolutely brutal hours, but never once have I seen any of them throw any teammates under the bus. And news flash, don’t go into consulting in the first place if you aren’t prepared to suck up, whether to a client or to leadership. In fact, tell me an industry or company that doesn’t involve that? Want to go into medicine? Be prepared to suck up to residents who will treat you like garbage. Also, that 1-1.5 years timeline is also off. For fresh college grads its still around 2-2.5 years though though this is lower than it used to be. For PhDs, it’s around 1.5-2

They’re pretty desperate to retain people so promotions are much quicker now than previously — and am saying this as someone who got promoted although I probably didn’t deserve it lol

It’s not even the people they’ve passed over who have left, it’s also top performers who get promoted quickly.

Thoughts on the utilization spreadsheet?

Job listing: You must have an incredible creative reputation and internationally recognized work. Can we talk about how awards can largely be a pay-to-play scheme? What if you freelance and the agency/client doesn’t share credit? What if the agency/client doesn’t bother with awards? What if it’s the same circle jerk of milquetoast talent receiving the honors? Every time I see a job listing requiring international awards, it sounds like another agency looking for the right “culture fit.” 🙄
