How would you email your boss asking for a promotion in 6m without seeming too aggressive? I was lowballed when I came into the firm 9m ago, and have since been given many additional responsibilities. I like the company and want to stay, but also want to catch up to my peers.

I would email to ask for a meeting. You shouldn’t put this ask in email and you should be open and honest and make your case.

Does your firm have written expectations by rank? Mine does. So I would print that out and highlight all the things you’re doing that are within the expectations of the next level and use that as your talking guide for why you think you are ready for the next level. A comparison of your rating to another person at a different rank is irrelevant. You need to be making a business case that you are already acting as a manager or whatever your next level is.

I think we work at the same firm and have the same issue. Just ask. I am very aggressively asking and also looking elsewhere.

I think the catch 22 here is why didn’t you come in at a higher level? If my firm does not promote me soon, I will likely jump firms.

like

That is a good question - I couldn’t get HR to tell me why they downgraded the role. If no hope of promotion, I’ll stick it out there until the job market improves then try to jump.

I would say something along the lines of “I am ready to move to the next level in 6 months because of x, y, z. I’d like to get your opinion on this and know if you’re ready to fully support me in this, across all those factors. If not, which ones do I need to work on in the next few months to prove to you that I’m ready for the next level and get your unequivocal support at year end.” Id also probably do this over a call instead of email. Basically, you’re asking them what you need to prove to them over the next few months so that they’re confident you’re performing at the next level.

Coming back to D in October after LOA. During that LOA, I was approached by other firms, and received 3 offers. Do I contact my coach and let him know that I would like to stay but received different offers and I want to know if Deloitte can match them?

Was hired into a company at a level that was more junior than my skills (Was out of work due to pandemic for a year). I’ve been at the company 5 months. We’re going through a reorg and my new position will really be leveraging my years of experience more so than other role. Is it appropriate to discuss a raise/adding senior to title? Or should I do the job and then prove myself then talk about raise. I have more experience than the senior members of my team. New leadership than when I was hired

Does anybody do a “work uniform” in the office? I’m new in an in-house role at a company that has dress for your day (primarily jeans), and I’m thinking about doing that when we go back (1-2 days a week). I need to buy new clothes post-covid anyways. I’m thinking some casual, but quality, plain black dresses that I can wear a sweater, jacket, blazer (when necessary), shirt, etc. over. Could dress up or down with shoes. Thoughts?
