If you’re THE EA, hit me up. I cherish hustle, grit tossed with humility and bluntness.

Say no. Peroid. You don't need to justify your position at all. They are retiring and are no longer entitled to your support. End of story. If they continue to call you, hang up on them. You do not owe them anything. If you want to be helpful, send them the names of some staffing agencies and suggest they hire a personal assistant (who is not you). Do not be bullied.
I agree - just say no! You are paid by the company to do company business and once this fellow retires he is no longer with the company, period.
I was in a similar situation once some time ago, where someone was retiring and HR asked me if I could continue to assist him for six months as he transitioned off. His first request was to ask me to book him and his family’s travel for their four month tour of Asia and Australia. It was a mess, took away from my new boss and after a month I went to HR and told them I couldn’t help anymore. The constant calls, his wife calling me, it got out of control very quickly. Good luck, hang tough!
Provide them with its your “Personal Assistant” rate, after one month of paying you out of their own pocket and they will be less likely to use you... don’t forget your Personal Assistant rate should be set at what YOU believe you are worth! It does not have to be what they pay you are the office.
Agreed, only I know I'd be stuck supporting this person forever if I offered a paid position and I don't want that. No amount of money is worth being his ea forever lol
Just say you need to be 100% available for your paycheck priorities. I know in our roles there is always an emotional element as you get to know your exec better than most so just remind yourself it’s just business.
what the? If he is not offering to pay, then it’s a solid no! Unless he becomes an advisor? Also, I don’t think BCG would be cool with you spending time doing work for someone who doesn’t work at BCG any longer during our business hours. Your focus should be on your employed partners, and he should totally respect that!
They have been with the company forever and really don't know how to do anything on their own. I've said I can't support them after retirement but they said they'd call me if they had questions or need assistance. I just want to cut ties completely.
Thank you. This is great advice. Especially with the pay aspect!
