You have time to overcontribute to your taxes to ensure a higher refund. Just drop an extra $300 per paycheck for the rest of your paychecks this year if you normally are close to even to get more back in IBonds.

Beyond that, I would say you would probably be OK contributing to index funds for the next year or two, but then should focus on HYSA from there.

I just keep it in cash (HYSA)

Yes it’s limited growth but I would not roll the dice if you’re saving for a down payment

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

Received a letter from Wells Fargo today. They are offering a refinance of fixed 30 year mortgage at 3.5%. I have no idea how they can do this judging by today’s interest rates. Currently my interest rate is at 4.5%. Judging by Wells Fargo sketchy history, I don’t trust it, however has anyone else gotten this offer?

From a FIRE perspective is it worth moving back in with toxic parents (to both save on NYC rent prices and help them out a bit financially)? Imagine being constantly miserable/mentally stressed anytime I will be at home, and a 2 hour commute each way to work, but parents don’t at all restrict my freedom (can stay with friends, go on mini-cations with boyfriend, etc. as often as I can/want).

Newbie question here. From what I’ve read and learned people typically take two FIRE approaches: 1. REI and 2. Index funds. First, am I missing anything else? Second, if you did the index fund version, and you retire at say 30-35, how do you use that money? Isn’t it locked in until 59 1/2?

Would you pay $2300/month on rent if your take home pay is $7000? Don’t have any loans. I am single. I go out on weekend prolly spend $100 max. I live in Chicago. This place is really close to work. 10 min walk. I don’t like commuting by train/bus. I don’t have a car.

Thinking about adding my child as an additional cardholder on Amex or other credit cards to build up their credit. I don't know if they're ready to actually have the card in their possession, but idea would be to establish early credit history.
Does it work? Is the purpose really to "build their habits" as Amex website suggests, or do they actually benefit from a longer credit history & piggyback off my good credit? First-gen professional here, so appreciate advice & resources.
